津巴布韦军方接管政权后第2天，首都哈拉雷仍然气氛紧张，市中心重要地标和建筑物外继续有装甲车、坦克和军车戒备，街上也有士兵巡逻。有报道引述津巴布韦执政非洲民族联盟－爱国阵线（PF）党内消息人士指，他们预期穆加贝会在本周内宣布辞职，而上周被罢免副总统职务并潜逃出国的姆南加古瓦则会担当临时领导角色。普通百姓对穆加贝政府是否被推翻，半信半疑。他们在穆加贝的铁腕统治下已经忍受了一段很长时间，不敢相信穆加贝一夜间会垮台。
