The details:

4x 5870 @ 960Mhz Core and 300Mhz Memory
Ubuntu 11.04 32bit
SDK 2.1
Drivers: 11.5

Phoenix settings:
Quote
-k phatk VECTORS DEVICE=0 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=11
or
Quote
-k poclbm VECTORS DEVICE=0 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=11

Poclbm settings:
Quote
--device=0 -v -w 128 -f 1

Current best result: ~430 Mhash/s per each card using phoenix with either phatk or poclbm kernel.
Using just poclbm drops to around average 428 Mhash/s

So do you think that's the best I can get or is there any room for improvemements?
Maybe SDK 2.4, but I read it is slower than 2.1
Or maybe the newest 11.6 drivers?

Any other suggestions?

Give SDK2.4 a try with Phoenix and -k phatk VECTORS DEVICE=0 BFI_INT WORKSIZE=256 FASTLOOP=false AGGRESSION=11 settings.
2.4 should improve hashrates on your gpu.

When I experimented with phoenix, it drove up my CPU utilization, so I chose to stay with poclbm.

I get about 3% CPU utilization per poclbm mining process.  Could anyone using phoenix report their CPU utilization figures?

At the time of my experiment I feared that phoenix was performing CPU mining in addition to GPU mining in order to elevate the hash rate, but as everyone knows, CPU mining is not at all cost effective considering the additional watts consumed.  Is this fear justified?

My 5870s give me 440-445MH but they're at 985/333. The same settings as you use for phatk.

The best for you would be:

Catalyst 11.6

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

SDK 2.4 (phatk is optimized for this version)

http://developer.amd.com/sdks/AMDAPPSDK/downloads/Pages/default.aspx

Phoenix + Phatk miner

Configure for desired pool using these flags:
-k phatk DEVICE=0 VECTORS BFI_INT FASTLOOP=false WORKSIZE=256 AGGRESSION=13

Than download this:

http://github.com/downloads/m0mchil/poclbm/poclbm_py2exe_20110627.7z

and unpack the phatk.cl to to your kernels folder naming it kernel.cl (or whatever the name is there in that folder. The initial kernel file has to be overwritten)
this manipulation will boost your performance up to 3%

Overclock your device to 970 core and underclock memory to 362-365 (needs testing) and I guarantee you will beat 439 MH\s!

Good luck!

My setup is the same as yours! The only thing is I use Windows 7 SP1 x64!
My rig generates 1720 MH\s with 970 core and 365 mem with stock voltage.
Another advice:
Keep your temps below 80C and do not force fans to spin 100% 'cause you risk to get the fans down in approximately a month of 24\7 hashing and as a result you get burned GPUs!

Any questions? Feel free to PM!

Just download the latest poclbm and the phatk+3% boost is already integrated. For 5870, use: -d0 -v -w256 -f1. OC a bit and you should get 430-440+.
