Hi all,
I’m a newbie in terms of mining and I have 1 dedicated server hosted in a datacenter that I no longer need, but my contract still has 1 year to end. So, I wanted to see if I can make some money with this server by mining some currency.
I know it’s a very low-end server, with no dedicated GPU so I don’t expect much. I leave the hardware specifications bellow and I really appreciate if someone can advise me on what are the best mining options:
Model: Model: DELL PowerEdge R210 CPU: Intel Core i3-530 RAM: 8GB Hard Drive(s): 2 x 1000GB SATA HW RAID Bandwidth: Unltd @ 1Gbps
Any advice in terms of currency to mine / software / pool to use?
Thanks

Because server is already paid for the next year electricity cost is zero. So any other advice?

He's right, nothing. You can't mine XMR with CPU, it's tool old and don't have AES-NI instructions. Maybe burst with HDD but you will got only pennies. Forget about mining.

If you can find a miner that works with it, point it at whatever cpu friendly coin you like. Chances are next to nothing that it will end up worth anything, but who knows? You could end up with some useless penny coins or the next monero.
(Note that I am not posing that as a 50/50 chance or anything, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but it IS possible).
Or turn the server to folding at home or some other distributed computing process that has some scientific use, you won't get paid but you'll be helping...

Try INTENSE coin on the CPU -- and also as suggested BURST on the HDD. Won't make a huge amount by any means... but something & you have free power.

I don't recommend you to mine unless you have a specialized “computer”. If you have a standard one, let this idea fall in the abyss of your memory. It won’t pay off. 1/ It uses a bunch of electricity for some little satoshis
2/ You are burning your computer, it won’t last long if it’s running 24/24 while at full power.

You have a low-end server for mining purpose. You might be able to earn but it will be too low earnings. It's better to purchase a good GPU to earn something or else better to drop the plan of mining and start something else.

Well as someone suggested you can set up a pool and collect a % from it. If you want to try you can try some cryptonight or cpu coins like Intense, biblepay, sikka, b2bcoin. You should be able to mine Myriad (yescrypt) on cpu. You can try it yourself and see if it is worth it or not.

My Suggestion would be Burst or storjshare combined with one thread on some CPU Coin (XMG or XMR)
If you have a fixed public IP running a masternode may be an option. Bitsend or Solaris are some examples of masternodecoins but you have invest in these coin to start the masternode.

The server is in need not only by looking at the price, Servers whose function is useful for every user, do not just look at the other side of the server, if the seever is broken how you can work with your online business Replace

I think you cant mine anything... Even crypto-currency that was created today or yesterday.

There is at least one older XMR miner that will work on a CPU with no AES instructions - but it's a lot less efficient than current XMR miners.
Does this server have PCI-E slot(s)?
