I was trying to send around .2 BTC to a friend from my multibit wallet but it did not work because it said I was not synced with the blockchain. More specifically, it said:
Unable to load blockchain "C:\Users\Family\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit\multibit.spvchain". The error was "com.google.bitcoin.store.BlockStoreException Corrupted block store: could not find chain head: 000000000000007bf640cbe7efc1c21fe825a9424d6b0e7e4eb46dab56e4b588".
Opening wallet "C:\Users\Family\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit\multibit.wallet"...

What went wrong and how do I fix it? I have about 5 BTC in that wallet, so what does the "reset blockchain and transactions do"?

Thanks

There is a fix in the latest version on the https://multibit.org website for this bug. This is version 0.5.12

If you download and install it the problem should disappear.

I am now running 0.5.12 and the same problem persists. Now what?

You should be able to regenerate the blockchain file that is causing the problem as follows:

1) Shut down MultiBit
2) Delete the file: C:\Users\Family\AppData\Roaming\MultiBit\multibit.spvchain
3) Start up MultiBit again

It will then resync (which should take a couple of minutes or so).
