Personally, I'd settle for a thin client, one that communicated with a remote bitcoind server using JSON-RPC.

ok im just a student lol, ill take a look at the bitcoin java client on sourceforge and see if i can do something with it over the christmas, no promises though  and dont let me stop anyone else from trying

I'm the current maintainer of the Java Bitcoin API, and it is just a Java API to make calls to a Bitcoin server. It works well, and I have added about 500 lines of tests. My long-term plan is indeed to make a real Android Bitcoin application, which would hold its own wallet, and not just communicate with a remote Bitcoin server.
