Just posting here so I can (eventually) take part in discussions somewhere relevant. However if newbie status remains I will take my comments elsewhere. Perhaps should start a thread on the reasons for restricting newbs? I find it a bit patronising and disrespectful tbh.

You have to post once and then wait 4 hours. That's it. It's designed so you read up on things and don't ask annoying questions or spam outside of the Newbie section.

If you have a better suggestion, post it here, and theymos will implement it! Smiley

The insinuation is that all newbs spam. I take that as an insult.

Innocent until proven guilty - just ban spammers.

There would be hundreds of spammers coming everyday and mods already have a lot on their heads. Also, taking this as an insult is just silly. Why would you be butthurt about something that helps the forum community? Unless you're selfish...

Well, a good first reason is it makes it harder for persons to create sock accounts and troll/scam/etc. Also, it gives people a chance to learn and read, rather then spamming questions that have already been clearly answered many times before, as well as learn rules, trusted users, etc.

Do people seriously read the forums for 4 hours or just leave the page open on another tab?

I believe you don't even need to leave it open anymore.

Can't figure out what is their consideration of doing this. No one answer questions from Newbie at all. Why they are so sure newbie must not raise good questions and have to be kept prison here...

Spam is correct, but theres also another apect to it:

Roughly the twenty first questions an average newcomer will ask have allready been answered, several hundred times at worst.
For example try to find out how many posts about wallet collision and it's propabilities have been posted on these forums Smiley
[edit]
The proper use of those four hours is to read the forums.

Bitcoin trinkets now on my online store: btc trinkets.com <- Bitcoin Tiepins, cufflinks, lapel pins, keychains, card holders and challenge coins.

After a while time logged in just becomes days and days and days, I believe after the 2 day mark of time spent on this forum people get de-sensitized to it  Grin

tl;rd version:

SPAM! either advertisement SPAM, or noobish question SPAM. the latter is worst.

(..and the "why noob jail?" question have already been answered lat least 1000 times.)
