I immediately called them in two hours as I relaized the BTCs were gone from the Wallet.
Would they help me with the refund.ITs worth 4.5 BTCs.

Are the BTCs insured on the Wallets?

They will probably say that there is nothing they can do. Bitcoin transactions are irreversible and I don't imagine this being Coinbase/GDAX fault, otherwise, you would not have been the only one affected.

P.s: You shouldn't be storing that much money in an exchange.

That really sucks. Unfortunately, you're not getting the funds back. There is no insurance on Coinbase's BTC, and even if there were, they couldn't insure against your own account security (e.g. if you get hacked). There is insurance on USD held on account (standard FDIC insurance). But if someone hacks into your account and buys BTC with your USD and withdraws it, it doesn't apply.

Technically, there's no way to verify that you didn't withdraw the funds yourself. For example, you could have set up a VPN to appear that there was unauthorized access to your account from, say, Russia, and you could do this for your email as well. If 2FA was via SMS, you could also have your number ported and give the appearance that the porting was unauthorized.

If Coinbase simply refunded people in this case, they would quickly find themselves bankrupt. If there is a security lapse on their end, they might be liable, but in this case, there is no proof of that.

Lesson learnt,but thought they are secured.

I didnt call them after 24hrs ,atleast I was able to find out that there was some unauthorized transaction which happened on my account in less than 2hrs and called them immediately to atleadt cancel the same.

If they are the only ones with access to your private keys, then after you informing them, they should investigate further to make right by you, I know about lesson learned et al. but when it comes to CoinBase, I told you so is not valid, because I told you so. any transaction ID would be nice to see what really happened.

First thing I totally agreed upon the LESSON LEARNT sentence.

And second thing,I might be newbie and its not fun of loosing app~2 BTCs and that too which I bought at high price.I had one account dedicated for 0.5 plus worth BTCs and another account dedicated for ETHs just a week before HAck I moved all my ETHs to BTCs which came upto 1.51 worth the day I bought,could have been app an extra BTC by today with the rate changes.

The worst day came which was Nov13th where both my accounts were hacked,infact one was mine and one was my spouse where I was logged in from my Home computer.I agree we are not super Tech gigs but with the minimal knowledge we bought BTCs and left them on the wallet.

These people call themselves GDAX support/Coinbase support/Kraken support [which I already posted on a seprate thread to alert people on the telephone numbers] and  they call the account holders and rob them.

I have already reached the GDAX support via email on this but at this point the consider the security breach was on my computer but not from their end,so stil trying to investigate more on this from my end as well as their end.

Who would like to cook up stories on such a high level Tech gig forum .Iam here just to share my story which could atleast alert other ppl not to fall a prey. I dont need any sympathy or begging or tips here.I was just here as there are many Tech gigs giving out their legal opinions,technical updates in order to see if anything can be done[ofcourse the transaction is irreversible] but there are good samaritans who can help if anyway to track the hackers.

I need not prove anything over here,who ever faces the loss they know the pain of loss.You might be a HERO member but atleast add some respect who are at loss.As it was an investment worth $14200,thats no fun.

No. Most likely that they will just ignored your request. I'm sorry to burst the bubble, but its your responsibility to safeguard your bitcoin in a exchange. And before you forgot, a lot of members here's advises not to store your bitcoin especially huge amount like yours in a exchange because of this kind of event or the whole exchange itself is being hacked.

You should only store few bits of your coins, just enough for you to get your trading let's say on a daily basis. Wallet like Electrum and Core is the best wallet to put huge amount of bitcoins. I hope you did learn your lessons here. Its a big amount but there's no way that you can get it back.

Unfortunately, there is no way you are getting it back and if anyone is promising you that, just be sure they are out to scam you of the one you have left. The only way you are getting it back is if the site decide to own up and be responsible for their inefficiencies and decides to compensate you for your loss, there is hardly anything you can do about it no matter how you try.

But the confusing part which I am yet to phantom is why would you keep such an amount on another person's platform even in the real world, rich people don't keep majority of their funds in the bank rather they invest it in assets in their name which makes it more secure. And bitcoin has made this more cheaper and easier for you to do. Just by downloading a wallet where you have the private key and you are safe but people still fall for this despite the abundance of this warning every where.

Transactions with bitcoin cannot be reversed. How can you prove that you have given access to your wallet voluntarily? It's not real. For two hours the coins can already be far away. This negative quality of anonymity. Maybe with time this problem will be solved but now there are many more pressing problems that need to be addressed.

I was just growing with the minimal coins I had but a huge damage done by the scamsters.DARN ! And the worst thing they are still royally posting their numbers as support and robbing people.

Well. Whats done is done already which we cant really turn back the time and regrets do always comes on last. For now better to move on and do forget on what happen and make learning on those mistake. As you have pm'ed me I would say theres 0% that you would able to take it back those amounts even GDAX wont really help you out since you are on full responsibility of your account.If its hacked by someone then its cause of your negligence.

This is one of the many risks we are facing while dealing with cryptocurrency. I was once a victim of phishing from a link shared in the Slack chat site and I knew the feeling was really bad to see your hard work just gone fast. Well, it was then my fault because I was not very careful and at that time I was not really aware that slack became the haven for scammers and phishers. However, lately somebody made an Ethereum withdrawal in my MEW account and good thing the wallet got only a minute Eth inside so the hacker was not able to withdraw that much. I don't know but I think hackers are really getting sophisticated and they can be ahead of the game. It is also unfortunate that MEW is not (they said they could not) sending email or SMS before any withdrawal can be finalized just like what CoinPayments and Bittrex are doing. MEW has a lower level of security maybe compared to other well-known Eth wallet providers (aside from Parity, of course which had been a good victim not once but twice already). Such is the reality we are facing with while still in cryptocurrency. Hope that soon MEW would further improve their security measures.

This is one of the many risks we are facing while dealing with cryptocurrency. I was once a victim of phishing from a link shared in the Slack chat site and I knew the feeling was really bad to see your hard work just gone fast. Well, it was then my fault because I was not very careful and at that time I was not really aware that slack became the haven for scammers and phishers. However, lately somebody made an Ethereum withdrawal in my MEW account and good thing the wallet got only a minute Eth inside so the hacker was not able to withdraw that much. I don't know but I think hackers are really getting sophisticated and they can be ahead of the game. It is also unfortunate that MEW is not (they said they could not) sending email or SMS before any withdrawal can be finalized just like what CoinPayments and Bittrex are doing. MEW has a lower level of security maybe compared to other well-known Eth wallet providers (aside from Parity, of course which had been a good victim not once but twice already). This is very unfortunate . 4.5 btc is actually a huge amount . I haven't collected that much yet ! So this is pretty bad .
As everyone said , it is undeniable that there is no turning back from that point . You will have to let it go . Obviously , it is the most attractive policy of bitcoin that every thing is anonymous and untracable but some time s it turn out to be the worst policy as well . Even if you complain and showcase the transactions and VPN to the authorized authorities they are not going to be able to help you . In their terms and conditions , before making a wallet it is pretty much declared that they are not responsible for any theft of your private keys and your faulty transactions . This is totally on you . I remember few months back , my friend accidently got 0.2 btc in his wallet . He never thought of returning them back . So letting it go is the only thing that can be done here.
