I've started with faucets and some airdrops to get to know the wallets, pools, etc.

Because it does not involve any risk, i think it's the best way to start with both and then join a market and try some trade.

ICOs and stuff, from my point of view are very risky for a beginner.

The best point-by-point introduction for newbies that I've found is the Getting started with Bitcoin tutorial.

One of the most important things to learn is choosing a proper wallet. If it's not listed here, then you should be wary of using it. Web wallets are inherently unsafe -- stay away from them.

Also, the Bitcoin/cryptocurrency space moves a mile a minute. Things are constantly changing. You should keep tabs on current events here:

Before learning about Bitcoin you should first learn about the dangers of using Crypto Currencies.

I would suggest you learn about the following -

Wallets
- How to secure them and back them up and set a pass-phrase
Security - Be aware of phishing sites, have Malwarbytes, Anti Virus, Spybot search and destroy and learn about key loggers
Scams - Visit sites like http://binaryscamwatchmonitor.com/ and www.badbitcoin.com to familiarize yourself with some methods scammers use
VPN - Use a VPN service so that no one can find your real IP
Offers or deals to turn Bitcoin into quick money  - If it seems to good to be true it probably is
Scam ICO's - There are thousands of them  - Learn how to spot them and read the ANN threads first before investing, if there is anything fishy about them most here will point it out.
Private keys - Learn what they are and why they are named private keys
Offline vs Online storage of Coins, learn the pros and the cons (Hot wallets vs Cold wallets)
Invest in a Encrypted thumb drive  -  I use Integral they are good it will erase the contents after 6 failed login attempts - Keep all of your passwords and backed up wallet.dat fles there
Never trust anyone on this forum or any other Crypto medium, especially if they initiate personal contact with you
Be aware of potential identity theft when providing exchanges with your personal information  - Check how big they are and how they are rated
Lastly remember Crypto has no morals or central authority, so if you lose money or are scammed it is because you allowed yourself to be put in that position and you will never recover lost funds.

Best of luck!

This is the best location all over the internet to get familiar with bitcoins because most of the members here already are seasoned bitcoin earners. Just read and digest everything you read here.

I help small and medium business owners increase brand awareness by creating engaging content, customer support, managing email marketing, and implementing automation.
