When you're researching an alt for a new investment, is there a certain price range you aim to start at?

A lot of the coins I've invested in have been no more than a couple hundred satoshis and have generally earned me minimal gains, while I've skipped over some coins worth significantly more that ended up shooting up even further. On the flip side, I've also screwed myself over while trying to get in on a pump for a bigger coin.

Obviously the goal is to buy at any given coin's low point, but is it better to buy in to extremely cheap coins or coins that are already a bit stronger?

Invest NOW in bitcoin. It will moon to 9k USD right now. So it is better to buy. Well at some point you can try cheap coins. Invest in ripple you'll get more times profit. You can join some signal group, in order for you to have some signals on what coin to buy.

Most of my crypto money is in BTC, but I like to diversify. Plus the allure of 100%+ gains that alts occasionally offer is quite tantalizing Grin

I've considered Ripple before, but I don't really see the potential that some people like to talk about. The USD price seems to stay pretty steady even when it pumps, only rising a few cents before dropping back down.

As for signal groups, that doesn't really interest me. I'm already really turned off by PBC and their shady tactics, and I feel like signal groups are doing the same thing just to a smaller audience. It could be possible to gain something from them, but mostly I'd just feel like they're using me for their own gains.

I do not have an actual price usually what i do is identify what is the best support level on a chart, once identified if the price hits the support level then i will buy. It usually work for me but of course not a 100%. There are always a losing trade.

Even though I did buy fairly recently, in the range of about 7700 and 6800, I don't think I'd be buying again until it hit around 6000, as I really can't trust this bubble to keep going up and up and up. MAYBE I'm just paranoid but I know there has to be others like me who think the same things, it's just more and more trading with nothing new about Bitcoin.

Actually for some of the people that think BTC is going to the moon, could you give me a reson for this? I want 3.

What your dong is good all ready to buy at a different price level. But you may increase your waiting time to next time if price corrects then you may get a lower price. It is not easy to tell exactly what price you can buy.

I make an analysis that we should buy it in range around 7k~7k2 but the price isn't stopped at that. So i think i would buy it in the next drop, about 7k3~7k5.

It varies. The given high point and low point on a specific market of crypto (e.g. Bitcoin, Ethereum and etc) differs base on how much demand  and supply it has. The price movement should be taken in account to identify the high and low given in a period of time. Take note that when we talk about shitcoins then it would be hard to predict and it's most likely a gamble. If you prefer a safe and where you can use technical analysis to predict the price then go for huge coins.

Buying right now would be a great idea I think. Everyday the price is increasing, as of writing this the price is at 8.2k. Waiting anymore will just increase the price IMO.

There so many emerging now altcoins from crypto market cap but for me I don't want shitcoin its like you gabled your capital in buying for them then suddenly that coin freeze the price in the crypto market cap. I always looked for those coins who have big opportunity and potential for earnings like bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin.
I always bought bitcoin every month half of my salary I spend bitcoin for investing and saving as well. For example price of bitcoin last few days $60k and now $70k then you have a gained a few months ago.

first and most important factor that i will be looking for is the potential to rise. for example bitcoin may as well be worth $1 billion per coin and i would still buy it now because it has a lot of potential for rising both in short term and long term. specially now with all the good news about it.
with altcoins i look for the pumping potential. for example when they announce something that can lead to a pump even if it is pure hype and has no real thing to it.

second thing that i consider is the charts of that coin. i check them fast to see if the coin is already in a bubble or not. specially the altcoins because when they get pumped, investing in them is no longer wise because they will be in a bubble which is waiting to burst.

and finally the "price range" that you are talking about comes in. but it is a small factor and i only consider it last. my theory is that you can pump an altcoin from 100 satoshi to 100,000 satoshi but you can't pump an altcoin from 0.1BTC to 100BTC! that is like an automatic block in front of big altcoins for rising big.

Invest in alts which have a decent daily market volume. Do a deep study of the last 3 months chart and enter the coin at a low. You may trade them to bitcoin if the price goes up.

If you want to only invest and not trade an altcoin, then the entry price range depends on the alt coin you are interested in. Read the alt coin thread and also study the chart and you may come up with a good range where you plan to invest.

if I personally usually see from a large volume of trading on altcoin, whether altcoin is decreasing in price, at least I usually choose altcoin which drops about 15% of the purchase price

Yeah this is why I've been so hesitant to invest in bigger coins. The couple times I've given it a shot I came out with a very small gain since I don't have a large amount of BTC to invest. But that is the reality of business and investing... you have to spend money to make money!

for me to buy altcoin to be traded, I always see the potential of altcoin, by looking at the development of altcoin prices in the market. then I wait at least the altcoin price drops to 20%, and I will start investing and trading on the altcoin.

I've already mentioned this in another post in the altcoin section, but I'll partially repeat it here.

These past couple of months I've been mainly focusing on Bitcoin and the majority of my funds are invested in Bitcoin (minus a couple of alts).
The growth of Bitcoin has exceeded the growth of altcoins on apretty regularly basis now, so I don't see a point in moving my majority of funds away from Bitcoin.

Any altcoins I do have are mostly established altcoins that have been at the top of Coinmarketcaps (trading volume) for quite a while now. However, I do not hold significant amounts.
I mostly have some Litecoin, Dash and Monero, maybe a bit of Ethereum somewhere.

obviously investing in  low priced altcoins is always preferable because of how easily they are capable being pumped. sometimes even the small altcoins that nobody knows about and have very small trading volume are such a better options.

but you never get what you want. these low priced, low volume altcoins are also riskier because there is a reason why they are that low.
for example Ripple is low and its real value should be 1000 satoshi because there is a crapload of it available (100 billion) and it is centralized and not trusted also.

There is a FOMO brewing...

Yep, I've experienced firsthand that buying a recently pumped coin generally isn't a good idea, even if the roadmap ahead is solid. In the best case scenario you could be waiting many months for a profit to occur.
In answer to the OP: I don't care much about the price range but absence of recent pumps and a promising roadmap do matter to me personally. These factors become less important when aiming for the very long term (years) btw.

I think it will not come back to below $7k, here I expect it to be $7.2k or $7.3k accordingly.

Then I'll start buying it to enlarge my stake amount for it. We should be ready before the main great price inflation that will happen next years.
