Their official word on CNC is that it will be removed July 10th. Also, when they added FTC and CNC, they didn't take the site down in preparation. Most likely this downtime is DDOS.

A maintenance message on a website is often a nice way to say there's an unexpected problem so that nobody panics.

The maintenance message indeed makes a better impression than the 404s on bter, guess they went to bed.  Results are the same though, so no big difference. |

My guess is a DDoS or a 'natural' form of overload. At least don't worry guys. Their service went down several times in the past and no one ever lost a single penny. These guys are very professional and everyone who is doing business with btc-e for a long time now knows that and knows that there is nothing to worry. They don't get their shares for each second their service is down. It's (and always was) in their best interest to have the service up again as soon as possible. These guys are always trying their best to keep their service running. They will be up again very soon or at least letting us know what's going on sooner or later.

On a production website, you don't take it down to add or change something. You make the changes in a development environment, test them thoroughly, and then push them out to production transparently.
Can you imagine Paypal or Ebay putting up a "maintenance" message?

Yep. Lots of exchanges are getting DDoSed. Some kid probably wants to drive down LTC price so he can get in cheap before LTC hits Gox Track the mofos (combine records from Gox, pools, btc-e, other sources, forums,....), find them, break legs/arms let them die......... no police |

haha what a joke. Why does GOX = LTC skyrocketing? LTC on GOX = massive sell-off. The coin is already fairly market stabilized and has no reason to go much higher above $4 before crashing down. The holders will not crash it right now because there is a very small amount of buy support at higher price amounts. When the buy walls move in to support large sell-offs it will definitely happen and trigger a large sell-off. DDOS is usually a shield to something else going on. |
