I read the article multiple times, but I seem to have missed it, why does he think it is a scam?
Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

he thinks its a scam because if bitcoin ever gets legitimized / accepted by the masses all the cash he has saved up will be worthless.  Instead of going from rags to riches like early adopters of bitcoins, he will be going from riches to rags.
