Yes, Bitcoin.
This *IS* the BTC area after all.
If you want to talk about other coins, use the correct area, namely Altcoins (Speculation).

The topic was changed, it mean a new topic isn't what you want to know. Read and understanding what you will ask before ask. This topic has been posted million times in this forum.

is it pointless to even bother trying to mine with a laptop? I have been wanting to get more involved but can't afford to pay for a dedicated rig at the moment. the last thing I want to do is drain what little life my laptop has left and have nothing to show for it.

Bitcoin mining can be done by a computer novice—requiring basic software and specialized hardware. First thing is that A prospective miner needs a bitcoin wallet—an encrypted online bank account—to hold what is earned. The second piece of software needed is the mining software itself. You could check out the infamous nicehash.com There would be a downloadable application there where you would just run it and it will suggest the best token/coin to mine. You will just connect the BTC Address there. Most mining income would depend on your mining tool which would be your GPU or graphics card. The better graphics card you have, the more you will mine. As of now, I would recommend you to have or buy an antminer s9. If you need pictures I can show you my rig which is connected to 9 video cards. Just hit me up.

Since you are a newbie, you should learn more about bitcoin and how it works, before you engage yourself to mining. Starting up a mining farm is easy, but hard to maintain.
