I hope that this is the right section to post this end. I was wondering how I would get my Bitcoin gold off off my Electrum wallet if I was using Segwit when the fork took place. Can anybody tell me how they did it or if this is possible. Thanks in advance Smiley

All he needs is the private key and he could import that information into a Coinomi wallet then he could claim Bitcoin Gold coins.

I'm not sure that's true. OP mentioned an Electrum Segwit wallet, which I think uses bech32. My coins were all stored in standard addresses, so I was able to use Coinomi to sweep the private keys. However, I've heard from multiple sources that this only works for standard (1xxxx) addresses, not multisig (3xxxx) or bech32 (bcxxx) addresses.

For multisig, I think the only option at this point is to use the BTG Core wallet. And honestly, I don't know if they support bech32 addresses at all.

And downloading anything from the Bitcoin Gold website is pretty dangerous at this time. They put out a warning on Twitter yesterday that their website had been hijacked. Apparently they were serving up malware in their wallet downloads for the better part of two days. So I would be careful downloading anything from their site. Hopefully some better solutions emerge. Right now, there's nothing besides Coinomi, and that only works on Android with standard addresses.

keep your bitcoins in a wallet that allows you to export your private keys (like bitcoin core and electorm).
after the fork -
1.export your keys out (lots of guides in this forum just search for them).
2.move your bitcoin to new wallet and wait for 30 confirms
3.import your keys to Coinomi.

You might be right, I did read about some people having problems with it before.
I moved coins out using that method though so I am pretty sure it's possible.

It's safer to move the coins to a new wallet before importing the old wallet information. It doesn't hurt to try.

I would wait.

There was BTG wallet, but it turned into a scam. So I would wait, until somebody actually comes with a legit wallet. Only after then I would claim my BTG. Otherwise you are risking your BTC.

On a throwaway machine, sure. I wouldn't download anything from bitcoingold.org on a computer with access to valuable private keys. The malware they were hosting for ~36 hours wasn't flagged by any antivirus software. Most wallet stealers won't be.

Coinomi is safe. I extracted my BTG and sent it to Bitfinex with it. It's closed-source, so I wouldn't trust it with significant funds. But to sweep empty private keys for BTG, it's fine (in increments if needed).
