I have a question, is it illegal for minors to gamble with bitcoins? Last time I checked it was unclear exactly what bitcoin is defined as, so would it be legal for a minor to gamble with them rather than fiat?

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

it depends on your laws on where you are

if it is illegal to gable then it is illegal to gamble with bitcoin, eggs, stones , elephants or cash , if it is not illegal then it is not illegal.

bitcoin is not cash or money

YMMV
IAMAL
etc.

Are there places where minors aren't allowed to gamble with fiat but can gamble with other things, such as bitcoin?

Hahaha. But really, are there countries/states where gambling with money is illegal but gambling with bitcoin is legal (for minors).

Also define 'minor'.

Different things are different.

can miners gamble? i think they actually are used to mine coins. you might be able to reprogram them for other tasks though... not sure what you are trying to accomplish here.

Yes it's illegal ONLINE: check term and conditions on popular casino websites like satoshidice .com or gamblingwithbitcoins . com
I don't know if minors are allowed in real casinos.

Bitcoin has value and thus anywhere it is illegal for minor to gamble (just about everywhere that I'm familiar with) then it would be illegal for minors to gamble with bitcoin.

It depends from the jurisdiction you are residing. Most countries don't have any penalty for minors if they play, only for gambling site.
U.S. is a different story, online gambling is a no-no here! Grin

I believe miners can gamble.  But how about miners who are minors?  Can miners even be minors?  And gambling... at what point is it a good idea.   Nobody should ever gamble (Again, depends on your definition of gamble).

Well it depends on what country or state you live in. And what age you are classified as a minor

It depends where are you from. Each country has different legislation and people use different tactics to avoid this.
For example:
Pachinko games in Japan since gambling for cash is illegal in Japan. The balls you won cannot be exchanged directly for money so you get tokens or prizes, which you can then exchange for cash at a place nominally separate from the parlor.
Quite the scheme.
In other countries this won't work at all. And in others you'll get the money directly without this mess.

In my country all form of gambling is illegal (by all ages). Some people do get arrested occasionally, but I haven't heard anyone getting arrested for online gambling.
