Congrats to tomman for winning!

Many thanks to robbert5 for holding this lottery!

People who complain about it; though titty.
It is Robbert's money so he decides. Simple.
If you feel you can do better; by all means,
start a thread and give away 1 BTC your way.

Yeah random.org should have been used Tongue

How would random.org be used? The op could say "Yes I used random.org and the number was 213" (which could be a sockpuppet's number). Is there a way to verify that random.org was used?

BTW, the strategy used by the OP is not random at all (the output is not uniformly distributed). In fact it should be easy to prove that  there are certain numbers that *could never have been generated*.

Does it matter?  It's his BTC to give away.  Read the haiku above.

Its his BTC and if he really gave it away its pretty cool. But without a proof, its not simply credible enough.
Provable security is pretty cool. What the OP should have done is
Give the strategy for the random number before data collection is complete. So other users have opportunity to add randomness.

That aside, what's more interesting are the comments to use random.org Grin

I'd really like to know how it'd work.

What if the OP decided that he'd gave !btc to the cutest nickname around?
Come on, the rules were on, everyone knew them and the contest has a winner.
You can't ask for more, transparent or not.
Would you be happier if instead of having a contest, using random.org or other method, he just gave the btc to someone he knew without even promoting the opportunity for the rest of us?!
And I also question all those who still post addresses like mad here: have you already read the post?! What part of ended didn't you all understood?!
Come on! You should be thankful, not questioning! That's a complete nonsense!

Congrats to tomman!

Actually, the number seems pretty random to me, based on the number of posters, the number of the post of the last accepted entry, the time that the OP decided to come in and check on things and how many posts there were at that time, etc, etc. If that math formula was already in his head at the start of all this, the numbers plugged into it could have been ANY numbers based on the activity of this thread. It doesn't get more random than that.

I'll never be happy with anything.  I am the majority of people on bitcointalk -- the most unhappy type of people around.  Grumble grumble.
