dummy HDMI plug for asus prime z270?

I want to run my rig without a monitor and just use remote desktop.  However if I don't have a monitor plugged in, the onboard video adaptor is automatically disabled.  This degrades performance quite noticeably.  Lower hashrates and very sluggish remote desktop response.  It seems like in the absence of enabled onboard video it uses one of the 7 gtx 1070's to show the desktop.

The motherboard has 27 million bios options but I can't seem to find any option to keep the onboard video enabled when no monitor is plugged in.

Would be super thankful if anyone can point me to a solution.

If you are using Linux you can also use headless by changing options in xorg and cool bits probably.

I am using nvOC by connecting to monitor to GPU which is close to processor so far never ran into issues with monitor or remote access.

I've personally never experienced this issue with the hashrate dropping. Sluggish response yes, but never lower performance. If you do want to activate the onboard graphics, a slightly better option is to buy "hdmi => vga" converter. They cost the same or ever less than those dummy plugs, do the same thing for mining purposes, but have an actual function as well besides just being a useless plug.

Have a few of those boards myself, z270p and z270e, couldn't find anything in the BIOS to activate the onboard without a physical plug.

SOLUTION (without dummy plug)

As it turns out, there is a software way to do this - no dummy plug required.  Just enable multi-monitor support in the bios and voila!  Onboard video is enabled in device manager, without any monitor being plugged in.  No remote desktop sluggishness and no reduction in hashrate.  (Of course I only discovered this after ordering a dummy plug!)

This works on the ASUS PRIME Z270-AR.  Probably work on some other motherboards too.

I hope this is helpful to anyone else who has this problem.

I have built many rigs and have never had to use a dummy plug yet. I really don't understand the need for them if you buy the correct board to start with.

The asus is a good board and it works fine in windows 10 without a dummy plug, until you go headless.  Then remote desktop is sluggish and hashrate is reduced by around 5%  (7 x GTX 1070, running nicehash).

But if multi-monitor is enabled in the bios, then no need for dummy plug.
