Question about forum PM system

I can't find any PMs that I sent...My outbox is empty. Am I just not looking in the right place or is there no way for me to see PMs that I sent?

Go to Profile -> Personal Message Options.

There's a checkbox there related to your issue:

"Save a copy of each Personal Message in my outbox by default."

The ones I've sent up to this date are gone though. right?

They may be magically saved in the forum database somewhere... I can only guess though as I don't have access to that info.
