Still down as we speak...

How come you know that it's "officially hacked"? It seems like you are aware that the chances are that the admin just took off with user funds big time, if it was a hack they probably would have stayed up or at least made some announcements.

Sad for anyone who had BTC on their site. Another example why you should NEVER store large amounts of BTC on an exchange for no reason.

This is the reason why whale traders stick to exchanges that are legibly registered and exchange owners identified as they cannot really run easily. So i'd rather stick on top exchanges.

Yup, I'm always weary of putting my money into something that hasn't established its reputation yet. Like @magneto said, stick to top exchanges. I just got into Binance the other day and it seems to be working just fine for me. It's highly unlikely they run off with people's coins because they're making a ton off of their fees alone.

Anything can happen though. Let's not forget the infamous Mt.Gox breakdown... Dropped BTC prices and drove people mad.

Coingather is Hosted in cisp.com OHIO ... The owner @rapta is David C Bushea Jr. He is there and do not answer our calls anymore.

Denúncia no FTC (Federal Trade Comission):
1) Ligar no +1 877 438 4338 e solicitar abertura de uma reclamação (complaint).
2) Relatar o caso e pegar o número do protocolo.
3) Enviar email para spam@uce.gov com o seguinte teor:
Subject: Additional information about complaint #XXXXXX

I just called FTC and opened a complaint. The number is XXXXXX. Just a summary about
my case: This year I created an account at www.coingather.com, a bitcoin/cryptocurrency
exchange. I have an amount equivalent to USD XXXXX (in Bitcoin current price on
11/29/2017) stored at this exchange. Since November 23, Coingather has vanished itself
and now I don't have access to my money anymore. There are hundreds (possibly
thousands) of people complaining about this on the internet and we have not received any
official communication from Coingather team not even heard any news about them. All their
communication through social media has ceased since the day the website went down and
they are also not answering any e-mails, tweets and any other
communication channel.
Is I told the FTC atendant, I'm not accusing anyone of theft. But I and a group of other
people who were victims of the same company decided to perform a complex research on
the internet in order to try to find the responsible for this scam. We found a lot of information
that lead us to one guy. His name is David C. Bushea. You can find below all information
that we got and how we linked all the information to reach this guy:
- WebSite: www.coingather.com
- Contact e-mail: support@coingather.com
- Suspect Name: David C. Bushea
- A guy named David Bushea registered the domain www.coingather.com in March 2014 -
Source:
https://www.domainhistory.net/coingather.com
- He used the nickname "Rapta" for support on social media and he was talking about his
other website: mscmall.info, that was also registered by David Bushea:
https://www.domainhistory.net/mecmall.info (PO box from OHIO)
- David Bushea uses nickname "Rapta":
https://forums.cpanel.net/threads/api-addition-request-killpkg.25770/
- "Rapta" talks about mecmall.info: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=720274.0
- The domain "www.rapta.net" is registered under David Bushea:
https://www.domainhistory.net/rapta.net
- The email "support@coingather.com" is associated with a PO Box in Maumee/OH. Using
this tool "https://www.instantcheckmate.com/" we found a link between David Bushea's
Facebook profile and a Github account that has the CoinGather's source code inside:
https://github.com/coingather/
- David's Facebook profile shows that he is located in Maumee/OH -
https://www.facebook.com/david.bushea.1
- The website https://publicrecords.directory/profiles/david-bushea.1856716.html shows that
David C Bushea has 2 emails with the nickname "Rapta": rapta9d@yahoo.com and
rapta9d9@yahoo.com
All the information above was collected by a huge community that is desperately trying to get
their criptocoins back. Our intention is to help the authorities and speed up the investigation;
we all suspect of the same individual and you will probably get many complaints with the
same information

CoinGather site admin has officially ran off customer bitcoins by pulling out an exit scam.

Site down : https://www.coingather.com/

News : https://news.bitcoin.com/coingather-exchange-has-been-offline-for-days-and-no-one-knows-why/

RIP money  Undecided

Stop calling it officially hacked. If it was hacked then site owner and his people should give us a feedback (or are they really that scared no give a statement?). The owner run away with clients money. He's a scam unless proven innocent in this case.

Good Morning Everyone,

I have Spoken with the FBI as well as Sylvania Sherrifs Department, I have also taken all the information that everyone has sent me that has been confirmed to both organizations. On all of our part. Every Victim of Coingather needs to compile any proof of account and holdings (anything from personal logs, screenshots, deposit or withdraw emails ect.) and send them to both the local and federal agencies.

If you have not already please file a report at https://complaint.ic3.gov/, This is going to take alot of work with our community to repair this Robbery. I would like to create a community FB group to work on this together https://www.facebook.com/groups/357718581358165/.

Please Join this group on FB.

So how can we recover all our money? If this guy resides in the US and nothing is done to him, then US isn't what they said they are. The FBI should come into this matter. How can one guy go away with millions of USD$ if not Billions and let him go free. US government need to do something about it.

You can't, bitcoin transactions are irreversible, you can only get your coin back if the owner decided to refund the coins back to his customer.

Quote
The FBI should come into this matter.
FBI will need to investigate the case first before they can make a move and seize the server or arrest the owner, this will take time.

Because the users decided to store bunch of coins inside  an exchange, this happened on multiple exchanges and always will until people learned their lesson Roll Eyes

And the instability of these exchanges is incredible, in the case of Coin I know many people who had significant values that were in the loss. So far they have not given any explanation at all by the media.

Some people in the middle suggested that those who were injured by the exchange should seek the police force to file a formal complaint against the administrators of the exchange. These weeks also rounded on the internet several news reports that the FBI is investigating the CoinGather disappearance case.

Patience is a must.
Things don't work that fast in the real world, take a look at what happened in Gox or inputs.io
The FBI will not just knock at his door, handcuff him and the beat the crap out of him in cell to get his coins.

First thing you should do is start preparing your case and better contact a lawyer or a groups that secured one already.
You're going to need proofs you had coins there and those coins are gone and back-up all the data you have about this exchange.
You guys should really unite in one case, I've already seen 3 Facebook groups, that is just wasting time and resources.

Anybody has an estimate on the total sum (btc value).
Trade volume was quite low, but wonder how much was in he wallets.

Is only one consequence of the war.
But I'm not sure if it's the result of a war with the FIAT world,
or whether it is not more the result of a war among the cryptocurrencies themselves.

The Crypto world get more then more to, enviousness, greed and get to a mammonism, like FIAT-people.
