I just checked coinmarketcap and see the trading volumes and its aside from few good coins like ETH, that exchanges has been trading shitcoins. LOL.

It's a sign that this exchange will run off with their money with those trading volumes as well. Some of the coins in there, I haven't heard of them.

Not sure though how much money they got from their customers but I'm sure not that much but it is still a scam if the site didn't get back. But I wouldn't be surprise if they didn't.

Looks like it's an exit scam. Anyone who has used to site I advise you to change your passwords and emails because you can count your money on it he will use them maliciously or sell them on. This is the risk with the smaller exchanges that they can exit so fast and don't have any identity linked with the exchange.

Its just becoming hard everyday to have a trust on the exchange sites in the crypto world entirely both the established ones and not so popular ones

For the established ones, in as much as they the likelihood of them running off with users money, is low (although its a possibility), they are fond if series of policy change that would take effect immediately, bad customer support that tickets will have to be open for several days, etc.

And for the not so popular ones, they tend to be more faster with answering of tickets but at the same time they really don't have much to lose in terms of reputation like the case of what is happening here so they can just betray clients confidence and bolt as they wish.

Moral of the story, the moment you have huge funds on an exchange, never wait till tomorrow before taking action, that might be the most costly mistake ever made

Even if there were no official info, the fact that Coingather has been silent for days now is a sign that there are problem within their website, whether it's a hack or they're running with their user's money (or maybe they're just incompetent in managing their social media).
How long are you going to monitor their addresses anyway, 2 years?

Look, based on the past exchangers who ran away with their user's money, things are not looking good for Coingather, even if they did comeback I'd bet most of their users will withdraw their alts and btc asap.

Can someone in USA contact the FBI or go to a police station and say what is happening with coingather? Godaddy and Cloudflare probably has the Rapta contact or they can give informations about who registered the domain name.

Cloudfare can only open their customer's info when there are official letter from the authorities, you can contact the FBI via Emails and wait for their response, if they can arrest the owner of BTC e, why can't do the same with coingather

I am sorry for the money lost but in the forum there has been a dozen warnings about not keeping your money in exchanges except a very few which you will do trading with. And that warning has been for much better known exchanges which they turned scam too. So I am not surprised at all if another exchanges from the mass has pulled an exit scam. Users have the main duty to safeguard their coins and not believing that some exchange will do the same for you.

Out of curiosity, how do you know if my funds are still in my wallet on Coingather? How can we check addresses?  I hate to think the worst but what else are we supposed to think? It's been a week and Rapta has disappeared? No social media announcements have been made - which we all know can be quite effective.  I've been doing a lot of digging and there is a ton of information about Coingather on different internet monitoring websites. Even though it was a small exchange compared to some - still thousands of people visited everyday and I'm they feel as helpless as I feel.

I've been doing a lot of digging and on this site - at some point in the past 4 developers did work on Coingather/API - I'm not a techy but I would assume that when developers help website owners etc - they much know who they are dealing with.

Yup, I'm always weary of putting my money into something that hasn't established its reputation yet. Like @magneto said, stick to top exchanges. I just got into Binance the other day and it seems to be working just fine for me. It's highly unlikely they run off with people's coins because they're making a ton off of their fees alone.

Anything can happen though. Let's not forget the infamous Mt.Gox breakdown... Dropped BTC prices and drove people mad.

Stop calling it officially hacked. If it was hacked then site owner and his people should give us a feedback (or are they really that scared no give a statement?). The owner run away with clients money. He's a scam unless proven innocent in this case.

On November 22, 2017 the Cryptocurrency Exchange website Coingather.com went offline and subsequently took all of the Users Financial Holdings within the exchange. The exchange is owned by a resident in your Jurisdiction from what the Toledo, OH sheriffs department stated.

The Exchange owned by David C. Bushea (AKA. Rapta) age 32 with an address listed on the Godaddy registrar of 2910 Moffat Rd Toledo, OH 43615.

My holdings on coingather are in an excess of $XXXXXX USD over XX Bitcoins. I am one of 1000's of users that have been victimized by this exchange.

On November 29, 2017 @ 9:06 A.M I filled a referral form with https://complaint.ic3.gov/
This Morning I also filled a report with the Atlanta FBI field office with a officer ID # XXXX. I would like to file a report/charges with your department as well.

You can't, bitcoin transactions are irreversible, you can only get your coin back if the owner decided to refund the coins back to his customer.

The FBI should come into this matter.

FBI will need to investigate the case first before they can make a move and seize the server or arrest the owner, this will take time.

And the instability of these exchanges is incredible, in the case of Coin I know many people who had significant values that were in the loss. So far they have not given any explanation at all by the media.

Some people in the middle suggested that those who were injured by the exchange should seek the police force to file a formal complaint against the administrators of the exchange. These weeks also rounded on the internet several news reports that the FBI is investigating the CoinGather disappearance case.

Things don't work that fast in the real world, take a look at what happened in Gox or inputs.io
The FBI will not just knock at his door, handcuff him and the beat the crap out of him in cell to get his coins.

First thing you should do is start preparing your case and better contact a lawyer or a groups that secured one already.
You're going to need proofs you had coins there and those coins are gone and back-up all the data you have about this exchange.
You guys should really unite in one case, I've already seen 3 Facebook groups, that is just wasting time and resources.

So my hunch were right, down websites without any updates on their social media are a big sign that they're either "Hacked" or pulling an exit scam.

This site is unpopular even though it was announced here few years back, also there were posts about withdrawal issue before this offline thing. Seems that several users of the site came here on bitcointalk because of this. I saw newbies posting in the ANN Thread about the site being inaccessible since 23rd.

It's really hard to trust exchanges, new or old, trusted or well known, the thing is they are holding people's money and they could run anytime.

Never trust an exchange, even if they're long established within the community, we never know what they'll do in the future.
Hence the reason many users always recommend not to put large fund within the exchange wallet.

It's actually the first time I've heard of that exchange. Sads news though.
This is why decentralized exchanges matter. Even the largest, most deemingly trustworthy companies bail out.

Me too first time I've heared though the miney shouldn't be a problem since it's not that familiar of a site so maybe it's a little attack that holds almost nothing though it's not literally nothing just implying that it's a bit low. The site's been down for quite some time but if the devs are actively engaged it wouldn't have been this long to revive their site unless they actually bailed out as you've said seems fishy to me.
