I think bitcoin is like the cash, you will lost it if you didn't take care of it.

So, I think the number of lost bitcoin will continue rise if we just ask them to buy and not teach them to how to store it correctly.

I heard before from a similiar amount of lost coins (approx. 2-3 millions). There was a research by a blockchain company (do not remember the name) some time ago about the issue. But I can not really consider it as "research" because it considered all coins which haven't been transferred for a specific time as lost.

It's hard to calculate but i think a lot (maybe 15-25% of current supply). When people didn't know it's real value and mined it just for fun.
