Honestly, you all are children who have not one single clue on investment and making money, its a damn shame all this CPU power is going straight down the toilet mining all this ....
LiteCoin is the only alt you should be mining.
LTC waste of time mining, What is the point to waste 4 GPU to make $3 per day?

Think the only coins worth looking at are the ones on Mt Gox, litecoin included because it will be on Mt Gox in July. Yes I believe when cryptocurrency is mainstream a few others will make it to the top as well, but right now BTC and LTC. I think any genuinely innovative new coins will have to wait until all the money-hungry clones stop coming.

Do they really take away from BTC and LTC?
At the end of the day almost all ALT Coins are directly traded for BTC - BTC is like the Gold standard of crypto currencies. This just further establishes BTC as the primary crypto currency.
The other point is why have people felt the need to create these alt coins. The answer is quite obvious - the difficulty of BTC forces centralisation and with the likes of ASICMiner who seem to know no limits to their greed are making it impossible for the common man to make any money at all. ASICMiner are incapable of maintaining a steady hash rate with massive fluctuations to the magnitude of 30Ths - no money has been spent on resilience or redundancy otherwise we would not see the erratic network performance just further indicating their commitment to filling their own pockets at the expense of everyone else.
To top off the fact the totally incompetent manner the ASIC technology has been rolled out giving a select few a massive advantage over everyone else just furthers the resentment.
What is the difference of having central banks - a monopoly on printing money versus several massive centralised mining operations who have a monopoly on generating BTC. AKA Meet the new boss - same as the old Boss. (I realise there is a technical difference in the way they operate - but to the man on the street - there is none)
Look at the most profitable coins - they are all scrypt for the simple reason the current generation of ASIC's do not work for scrypt mining and the community has decided that a level playing field (hardware that can be purchased next day) is preferable to specialist technology that is almost impossible to get hold of.

You make a very good point. I suspect also that if ASIC's are eventually made to scrypt mine, the methodology of mining will change accordingly. Its always going to be a game of cat & mouse I suspect.

Well honestly you've lost complete sight of what cryptocurrencies community was orginally about. It was about a viable fairer alternative to the banks controlled fiat currencies. To start with the community was all about coming up with a currencies that wasn't controlled by the big greedy banks, as it turns now its seems most the crypto communities greed is as bad as the banks. Most seem just tp consider BTC success based on is perceived value vs USD Its the so called investors/money makers that make BTC less of a viable currency for merchants to adopt.

You're completely throwing down for the most ignorant statement of the week with this! If you can only see "today", then you might have a point. I mined BTC when it was pennies each and LTC when it had ZERO value. In 6 months when those coins might be worth $100 each, it kind of changes the equation. ~BCX~ Of course your right, and its this point that the OP misses completely. Its the possibility any other alt (old or yet to come), including LTC, could be the next bitcoin, and thats why we will continue to see new coins.

There are too many, you cannot distinguish which one will be the next success, ok, some of you will say "I know, I have been around, I can tell" ok, but the majority here will be busy mining other shit alts while the more experienced actually hop on board with the Good one. It just wont work now. Its not hard to see. The good alt gets lost in the sea of shitcoins and cannot be found by the majority to make it a success, in a nutshell.

Anyway, I didnt start the topic to start a wild idea, bring anything new, or argue. Was just to show whats all out there and that we are heading nowhere with all this... Im more interested in seeing the community come in on this and state their opinions... and argue amongst themselves .. lol

So mine alts then trade them for ltc =)

It just wont work now. Its not hard to see. The good alt gets lost in the sea of shitcoins and cannot be found by the majority to make it a success, in a nutshell. I dont think anyone can tell which alt will be the next success. Maybe there will be several - maybe there will be none. Maybe only BTC and LTC will only ever be worth anything - maybe they wont? Maybe they will plummet to earth in value and be overtaken by something else? No-one here mines an alt because they think its shit. Deep down we all believe the alt we're mining is or will be worth mining in the longer term or we wouldnt be mining it. For some thats because of what its worth on the current market, or what we think it will be worth next week, or next year. For many people here (including myself) the importance is not so much about "what I know I can make right now in today's market", but what we might make in the future. Personally, I switch between mining alts that are worth something now (and I sell or dump them to help pay my mining costs), & then I might spend some time mining an alt that you cant even trade yet...because one day it might be worth something. Sure, I could go mine LTC and make some definite $$ but thats today & now - who's to say LTC will be worth anything next week, any more so than another alt? And why should I mine LTC that might make me $20/wk now, when I can mine another alt that might be worth $100+ one day? Its all these maybe's and reasons why alt's will continue to be released. Everyone wants to be an early adopter of a coin that becomes worth something one day & is why new coins will continue to be released, and people will continue to mine them - even at a loss.

(This is what I mean by people on here not doing their research before jumping on something) Ill only say it one more time, Theymos gave me a comment on my trust rating saying "likely" alt of aquaman, apparently somebody else on here who was scamming, I have no idea why that happen, but it should be taken off soon. Your right, the government could deliver a huge hit to it, but it dosent matter what you implement into a new coin, the government will always be able to take it down, they can do things im sure none of us could even imagine could be done.
