Do we need to have a common language around the world?

I don't think so ...
of course it's not a bad thing but it's just not that easy,
besides we already have english as a unifier.
with english as a unifying language i think that's enough

Someday in the future, maybe it will happen. How some ancient languages became extinct. But I like the current variety. And personally I was sorry when the various national coins of Europe were replaced by faceless euros.

I am very sure we do. Because if not, we would have not relationship with our neighboring countries. We could not connect with the world and progress in every aspect will be difficult. I thought like that but i am sure there will be more negative effects if there is no universal language.

i think there is a common language that is being used all around the world now , and that language is the english language. Its important that we have a common language to used , for easy communication in other countries. And for us to simply understands each other. English language is the number one subject in all school as i know for this day. Because most countries today uses english whenever they are all around the world.

We need to but having said that it doesn't mean we have to be monolingual.
IMHO in near future everyone will be at least bilingual with Global language (read - English) being accompanied by knowledge of at least one Regional language.

So Global language goes hand in hand with Regional language and latter will never fully loose usability and practicality in certain specific applications.

yes, we need common language so that we can understand better, communication is more clearer, transaction can be made easy, problem and conflict can be resolve in a more sensible and understandable way.. although english language now can be consider but not all can speak it... language is a bridge to a better world.

I think we already had a common language in the world. It's english, i'm not a british or american but i usually use english language in my coversation .

We already have a common language, and it is known as English. You and me are communicating to each other using that language. But that doesn't mean that you should force someone to give up his mother tongue. It happens a lot here in India, where people are forced to stop speaking particular languages, due to political pressure.

I think English is the common language in the world. Many can understand english and can comprehend a little to some. Amazingly, mandarin is the language for the business world.

As a language teacher, humanity do not need to have a common language around the world . Because having different languages on earth creates cultural diversity and gives people a change to find out about other cultures. For that reason, there is no need to create new common language .

Sign language is the language of the whole world. In extreme cases, you can draw and everything will become clear. This language does not have to be done, everything should be as it is.

Yes, we do, but it's almost impossible. Even English in diffrent countries is different. Try to understand English in Sri Lanka... It's far more simplified!
