So... I think I may be losing my mind! Was it Einstein that said Insanity was "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." If so, that chap knew a thing or two!
I've found myself obsessed with the idea of finding Satoshi Nakamoto's private key... bare with me. I personally think that the key is lost or, accidentally or deliberately.. but I guess we may never know.
The idea that keeps gnawing away at me, is that key is just a number. If I could somehow guess the number, then I could recover them. I'd have riches beyond my wildest dreams. I could do good in this world. And yes I understand the morality, I'd basically be stealing.. well, not basically, just plain theft! But still I'm obsessed.
The crazy part is I'm actually OK at Maths (Math for you Americans) - I actually understand the numbers involved. Well, as much as the human brain can conceive of such ridiculously high numbers.
Even crazier is that I actually try - not some script generating 10000's of keys and checking balances, but manually.. well I use a website that lists all possible address and manually search a 100 at a time. I've spent weeks doing it.
I think I'm losing my mind.
Anyway, that's my confession. I guess I want to know if I'm alone. It's it human nature to believe that somehow, against ALL odds, you'll be successful? Or am I actually losing my mind?
I think I may know the answer.
Well if I ever find what I'm looking for I'll transfer then here:

Keep an eye on that address - you never know ;o)
Peace and love.
Bye.

How many possible address could there be? Billions? That is a lot of number man! You could not just get it that easily. Maybe you could find another address that is owned by a whale and who knows. You could get more than what you are expecting. If it is just one address that you are aiming then it will like a needle in the haystack.

Billions?? I wish!! I read it was 2^160 privates keys.. which is a fair bit over a billion I like your idea, really But because of the poople like you I think Satoshi Nakamoto has generated an address that lacks any regularity like there are no numbers or letters in order like 123 or so... Or, just to be a little bit nasty with you, what if he has generated it like it contains his loved pet's name in it You would never know, but it's like you're playing a lottery, but you are paying with your time and your mental healthyness, so this is good for a week or so but after you should find someting more interesting and productive things to work on. Or, if you don't do it because of the money you can find, because you have what you need for your life, you should start to live and stop this kind of lottery really. Anyway, do you trust those websites enough that if you find an address that contains millions of coins they will really show you? How would you know if the programmer who have created a site to check balances of unknown addresses, doesn't included a script to simply send the coins found to himself and show 0 balance to the users using that site...

Even if he really exists do you really think that he will really expose his private key? No way, it is like saying that you are the own of a bank and you do not have any security layers on your bank account with more than billions of dollars inside, it just makes no sense at all.
There is no way that you can find it, but well, keep dreaming about it, Einstein said too that dreamings might become true if you really believe on them (but this seems to be difficult to see it happening)
And how many years could you be trying to descifrate that private key? more than decades i guess.

You should spend your time on something else, figuring it out would take a entire life time and even then your chances of finding it would be 1 in a billion.

You will probably need quantum computer to stand a slim chance:-) But when quantum computer does become available, I guess bitcoin has to migrate to a new platform to be quantum safe. It will be interesting to see whether satoshi will migrate the money to the new chain or not, perhaps we can take a guess to see if he still lives or not.

Technically you have a chance of generating one of Satoshi's private keys each time you create a wallet. It's just extremely unlikely. Security through improbability is pretty much the basis of cryptography.

the idea of the original, of course, you can go crazy with such thoughts, constantly think about it and look for a needle in a haystack, but, most importantly, believe in yourself and your goal - and it will be rewarded, the probability of opening the key is, of course, very meager and unlikely, but if you know well what you are doing and you have a very powerful computer, try and be sure whether it was possible or not, good luck with this

That was hilarious, to think any man would really do this type of digging is beyond my imagination. There is a lot of combination that could happen with a 21 digit number. I guess you could say there would be billions of it. You are really going to get crazy if you dont stop that. Better move on and just feel the crazy price which bitcoin have and not go crazy yourself.

I agree, the sad thing is there are 52, 594, 876 minutes in 100 years, very slim changes to find that one even if you try once per minute, and you also need to sleep, so... you are better off learning something useful.

By some quick, back-of-the-envelope maths, even if there were a billion planet earths, each with 7 billion people, and every single person on every one of those earths looked at a thousand addresses per second, every second, since the universe began, you would only have examined 0.000000002% of all addresses (1/500 millionth).
[(1*10^9)*(7*10^9)*(1000)*(13.8*10^9)*365*24*60*60]/(2^160)
You are wasting your time.

You are not crazy. Everyone who read about the keys and thought about the finite numbers to choose from (even though the size is really really huge), there would have been a thought of what if. In the wildest of chance you find a private key with coins, do you really dare to take it. If it is one of the whales coins, wouldn't they use their resources to track you down? On the other hand if it is from an unsuspecting normal person like us, are you ready to shatter their dreams??

You are loosing your time. We all have that dream, each one of us thinks that he will be the lucky one and get the reward for himself. It is just dreams. I think you should focus on something else. if you take a moment and think about the high number of possible private keys that can be generated then you will know that what you do is a lost of time. Anyway, that's my confession. I guess I want to know if I'm alone. It's it human nature to believe that somehow, against ALL odds, you'll be successful? Or am I actually losing my mind?
You are not the only one, many users did what you do but most of them realized that they have to give up and start doing something else more important.

leave bruteforce for the red-necks! you will get the key telepathically when you'll get insane enough!
Its amazing what goes on in people's minds. Thinking about making such a guess without empirical evidence is like trying to swim the Pacific to China. Imagine the possibility. The more you try, the more likelihood of sinking. How possible it is going out of your mind hunting Mr Satoshi's treasure. This is no treasure island where the pirates have hidden the 'dead man's chest' but the internet, Blockchain, the latest technology that has marvelled the best hackers. Find it or sink trying. Which is more likely? Trying the same thing again and again and failing again and again has an effect on the psyche that could make you see failure as normal and success as abnormal. Both ways you lose. Assuming you succeed in getting through the security, the success you have achieved may seem so out of sync that it triggers of the last bolt holding the fabrics of your sanity off that the madness you court sets in. Posting this here isn't a good sign. I suggest you exorcise the spirit behide the lust. You'll be fine by doing that.
