I just ordered my Ledger Nano S and it will arrive in few days.

1) My question is, let's say I have 1 BTC in my Ledger Nano S, and I plan to sell 0.2 BTC on exchange. So I send 0.2 BTC to say, Coinbase. Where will the remaining 0.8 BTC go? Will it stay in the same existing address in hardware wallet or will it store in another address in hardware wallet?

2) I am currently using electrum mobile wallet to store my bitcoin. If I send all bitcoin from Electrum  to my address in Ledger Nano S, will I see Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoin Diamond in my Ledger Nano wallet?

Ledger generates a new address each time you want to receive a payment.  I haven't found anything in regards to actually sending a payment.

I haven't seen any clear content, but I'm pretty sure the change could go to another address on the wallet.

The remaining 0.8BTC will be sent back to you.

No. You would only send Bitcoins. To be able to recover and spend the other fork coins, you would need to import your Electrum wallet in a Bitcoin Gold/Bitcoin Diamond compatible wallet.

Regarding my 2nd question, if I send all my BTC balance to the address in my Ledger Nano S with a new seed. Then my electrum would have 0 BTC in it. So I import my electrum seed to other BCG and BCD compatible wallet, then I would still see those fork coins right even I have 0 BTC on that electrum seed?

Yes. You probably have 3 balances in your Electrum wallet:

X Bitcoins
X Bitcoin Gold
X Bitcoin Cash

And I say "probably" because this is only true if you had Bitcoins before both forks.

- If you had 1 Bitcoin while the Bitcoin Gold fork, you now have 1 Bitcoin Gold;
- If you had 1 Bitcoin while the Bitcoin Cash fork, you now have 1 Bitcoin Cash.

When you send all your Bitcoin balance to a new wallet, the remaining coins will stay there. They are all different coins.

Thanks. This has cleared up my confusion Smiley

Last question, should I set up a Segwit or Legacy address? Or it doesn't matter?

Mate you can do some research and it take less than five minute to find your answer. To answer your question. I also received my nano Ledger a few days ago. Personally, I set up a Segwit address because it is very fast to receive your bitcoin and the fee are lower than those of Legacy. The Segwit address starts with number 3. And you can also send your bitcoin to Legacy or Segwit. If you do not like the Segwit address, you can switch to Legacy.

Hey. Maybe its some off-topic opinion, but did you guys hear the thought, that using hardware wallets is dangerous?
There is opinion, that companies, which produce the wallets can control it and steal your money. Personally, I don't know the right answer and I don't use it.
It's just interesting to know your opinion.
