Blockchain.info issues?

Is anyone else having trouble logging into Blockchain.info wallets via desktop browser at the moment?

I get as far as putting in my Wallet ID and password, then it gives the little "have sent authentication email" popup, but when I check my email account...nothing.

I could access ok on my mobile phone, right until I logged out then tried to login again, the phone app said sent email authentication...but still no email.

It was working a couple hours ago and received the email fine then. Grrrr

I'm happy to report things seem to have returned to normal and email authorisation codes being sent out again, phew!  Was bit worried there for a sec.

Thats one of the reasons to not use an online wallet. You have to rely on their services to be able to access your funds.
I would recommend to get a desktop or even a mobile wallet. A wallet where you have control of your private keys and therefore your money.

Do yourself a favor and protect your coins from 3rd parties holding your funds.

I would recommend not to use third party wallet like blockchain.info. With these kind of wallets you are not in control of your private key and hence not in control over your money. Its always better to store your crypto in wallets where you control the private key.

Spoke too soon, they're having email sending problems again.

I have thought about alternatives, but each one has its own strengths and weaknesses, you can lose your hardware dongle  or if your hard drive dies you may never recover locally stored ones etc.  There's always the cold storage paper wallet option of course but that's hardly accessible.

Given these login issues think I might try an alternative though.

Use electrum or exodus like wallet as hot wallet.

Use gmail instead of other email service provider for blockchain.info wallet.

If you dont like to authenticate everytime you access your blockchain wallet than download their mobile app and pair it put strong pincode.

I agree. Online wallets are somewhat reliable and easy to use like myetherwallet, but not as good as offline wallets due to privacy and security concerns like the one op reported. I always feel a lot safer using offline wallets on my desktop rather than accessing online wallets. Protect your private keys people. Easy to use offline wallets over online wallets anyday.

I agree. Online wallets are somewhat reliable and easy to use like myetherwallet, but not as good as offline wallets due to privacy and security concerns like the one op reported. Well not so much a security concern I was having as general annoyance in simply not being able to access it via desktop because Blockchain are failing to send the actual authorising email.
And their support pages are horrific, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack to actually get to a link where you can fill in a support form. The response I got was to use recovery to assign a new email address to my account,  that hardly helps if their system is failing to send the email in the first place *facepalm*

Electrum might be the way to go though, thanks.

When I was a noob I used to have some BTC on the blockchain.info wallet. Then there was some sort of hack or exploit and a lot of people lost their coins. This is when I learned how incredibly stupid it is to hold coins in online places.

If you can't afford running Bitcoin Core, then at least get Electrum. SPV is not as ideal as a full node, but it's a million times better than blockchain.info or any other online wallet.

Op, you have made me worry for a brief moment there. I checked my own blockchain.info wallet and I can confirm that there is nothing wrong with blockchain.info ATM.
I was able to log in with no problems. From my experience, I can say that every time there is something wrong with 2FA (SMSM or email token is nowhere to be found)
then it is most likely delay caused either by phone operator or email provider - as these automated systems tend to cause the issue the most. It is very rarely the fault of the service itself.

Given that I was receiving other emails just fine to my email accounts, and had 2 different wallets on Blockchain, with email addresses on totally different hosts that were both failing to receive the authorisation at exactly the same time, I put them blame firmly on Blockchains only email delivery system.

I can confirm the same issue as can many Blockchain.info wallet users on Dec 5.  There are many of us on social media who are being told to click a 2FA verification email that isn't sent.  Not in spam folder.

On top of blockchain.info being lousy security & sending BTC (I'm pretty much a noob just learning reading here how bad they are), they can't even dispatch an email.

That might some internet connection problem if you're using their website, or do you try to use their mobile app. If it still the same you then that might be a bug from the server side. I recommend that get your recovery seed which contains 12 words and download the latest version of electrum and install in on your PC and use it instead of blockchain, this wallet has so many different reported issues faced by their users lately. But make sure that your computer is malware-free before using electrum.

Thanks for your reply. The problem is solved. It was caused by a browser cache. So I cleared it out and now everything looks right.

However yes, I am now thinking of switching not even to a desktop wallet but to a hardware one..

Any of them is a good choice of wallet, desktop wallet is good one for those people who can't afford to buy hardware wallet. What hardware do you prefer, nano ledger s or trezor? If you decided to choose nano ledger s their next batch will be at the end of March so it will take a long time before you'll get your own. The Ledger supports more coins and I've seen more development on it than the Trezor (though both are open source and it's just up to devs to add support for their coin in either hardware wallet). It's a hardware wallet and if the tech in it becomes outdated you can always just get another hard wallet. I'd personally go with whatever is cheapest as both do the job of storing coins securely just fine.

Happens from time to time and it's nothing to worry about, usually it's maintenance. Usually it's not cache, firewall, email relogin,etc...

So if anyone has this problem in the future, just wait for an hour or so and you'll get your email to login.
