I'm using Coinbase and I know that it's not safe to keep bitcoins in web wallet. I keep giving it the electrum address to send it to but it keeps telling me that my transaction is invalid. Are detrimenistic wallets incompatible with coinbase? Is there any way to get them to electrum?

are you by any chance using the latest version of Electrum with the new wallet type for SegWit?

if yes, maybe that is the problem. as far a i know Coinbase does not yet support SegWit and the Bech32 address format (starting with "bc") is not recognized by their system.
try creating a regular wallet which gives you addresses starting with "1" and try again.
