I remember reading a post where theymos stated he may publish/release satoshi's PM's and IP addresses (likely exit nodes) in future years. This was in 2013, wondering if anyone had any update or knows if this is still something planned (hopefully). I'd personally find it pretty interesting to read/see.

Regardless of the IP's or not, I recall theymos discussed including Satoshi's PM's in his thread reply in 2013. Those would be a pretty interesting/informative read IMO

Yep! That's exactly what post I was referencing! 8 years would be around 2021, but given the spike in BTC interest alone lately, was hoping there'd be an update on the matter, at least from theymos himself one can only hope lol

Who cares? Most likely satoshi was Hal Finney and others working in conjunction.

ip address are not accurate. you cant locate or identify someone just by basing or looking on their ip address because you can always get a random ip address everytime you restart your modem or internet data therfor its riddiculus and totally impossible to find the real satoshi nakamoto.

Your now the second person to solely comment on half of my statement... Did you even read the whole thing? I said PM's and IP address. I realize a lone IP address is most likely worthless.

In 2013 I had one of my accounts banned just because I mentioned a "metasploit module" idea on exploit SMF Simple Machines ... paranoiac times ...

That happens only when you have a dynamic IP and not everyone does. Moreover, dynamic switching is done in a certain range, meaning that it's still possible to locate you if needed. Switching IP and using a VPN will only you only from internet trolls who would like to mail you excrements or threats.

This was some fake IP address. If Satoshi exists he is always using anonymizers to come into the world net. It is too risky to work from his own IP.

It wouldn't be fair to do this in my opinion. If you had your IP address leaked without your consent whether it was Tor or not you would probably kick up a fuss. Just because SAtoshi is worshiped around here I don't think he should be treated any different regarding privacy.

I was doubting this but theymos actually said it: I'll probably release Satoshi's PMs and logged IPs addresses in ~8 years. This'd probably be of great historical interest. (Though he always used Tor, as far as I can tell.)
So if that post was in 2013, in about 2021 he would release the data, which in my opinion is an huge mistake. Remember how much criticism Mike Hearn got when he released all these (supposedly real) emails? I think theymos would get a lot of shit from the community if he released that. Even if it would be "safe" to release the tor IP's because tor IP's are pretty useless and due the amount of time that has passed now (I think even a real IP would be useless to de-anonymize him since most ISP don't save logs for that long) it would go against one's privacy, I don't think satoshi would like that. Honestly im curious to see if satoshi ever said anything further when it comes to blocksize, forks and other controversial topics privately, but then again, it's better that we stop worshiping anyone including satoshi and think for ourselves.

I hope, he will never do this. The IP and PMs of Satoshi aren't our affair, as we all also don't want to get our IPs and PMs published, I guess.

I share the same sentiment but if theymos will do then I am sure that he will left behind the sensitive information though I think Satoshi would not talk about sensitive info in PM here in the forum. As for IPs, it's no use. Satoshi is smart enough to cut the traces in his IP.

Unless Satoshi himself allow it.. If not then why bother PM people? All of our PM isn't private anymore.. @_@
