it is a little hard for me to consider things less than a year as a short term investment. because i believe anything more than a couple of months is somewhat a long term investment!

and when you are talking about benefits, then it must be defined what kind of benefits you are looking for. if it is purely monetary benefits then i think short term investments can be more beneficial since you make profit in short term (specially if the short term is really short like days or weeks) then use the profit to invest again and make more profit. rinse and repeat to grow the capital exponentially.

but this takes time. so you may think about benefits as in terms of money and spending less time. so long term investment becomes more beneficial. when you just buy something and hold it for a long time. even 10 years and you don't spend any time on it. you come back to what you bought at $0.10 in 10 years ago and see it is $100,000 by then and do nothing more in between.

If you asking bitcoin, well it's fit for long term investment since bitcoin far more riskier if you're trade in short term.
Unlike wall street trading so that's why bitcoin consider as high risk investment but it able generate more profit than other well known investment like gold

My option is short term investment. As  you can see, bitcoin is the most valuable thing in general and the price is unsteady so i chose short term investment because i can not know the time bitcoin will be collapsed. According to the information and number about bitcoin, i can see bitcoin will be more popular and influential in market and economy. If you invest in Bitcoin I think you should invest with long term but if it's altcoin you shouldn't do that. Cause Bitcoin price is increasing day by day very quickly so other altcoin price will decrease because almost altcoin have BTC/ALT pairing so when Bitcoin price increase altcoin price will decrease as well. I think this depends on the affordable investment that you can loose over the time if something went wrong. If there is no use of your money for long time or you have sufficient in your saving then you should not worry about the investment that you are making. In that case the 10 years period would be nothing. Juts look at the graph now, how the bitcoin looks like to you if considered from year 2009 to all upto today? Does that make sense, yes off course it does because it has increase by 10000X today and those who had few bitcoins also are millionaire now, ideally billionaire though!

So thats the point it depends on many things, may be it could be personal, family related or just something that makes it important to cash out on timely basis or sometimes it may not be required at all. Thats what will define which one is better. For me one year is enough period really.

You are still speculating with 30% of your bitcoins. It might be still acceptable depending on your risk appetite. But it is a risky strategy. You might be thinking you are selling high, while the price further increases and goes out of reach.

for myself I prefer to invest in the long term for now .. I share my 2 capital for long term investment 70% and for short 30% this all I consider because for short term investment is very risky with the number of fraud is very difficult to find investment place good short term right now. on long-term investments I bought some shares of coal mines, I happen to live in a lot of coal mining  to get a profit on this investment is very long but it is certain that the risk is smaller

I would say experience is everything in trading and knowing the right periods to invest and withdraw is very much essential to derive the highest profits. It seems to me that in the case of bitcoin you can't predict what will be the price in the long run. We can't even predict how many years it will be bitcoin. Long-term investments can only work on the stock market. Speculative capital only works with short-term investments.

In general, I say that long term is much safer; you get the chance to make money over a period of time, and as that time increases you make more and more. However, I think short term investment has the potential to give you the best returns. That doesn't mean short term is better than long term, as there are more risks with short term, so take it as you will. Regardless of what you choose, you need to be smart with your investments, so I'd prefer long-term.
