Let me think first umm, I would definitely consider bitcoin as %40 or %50. Bitcoin will always be the most stable one. Second eth for %10 and other good coins like neo lisk omisego etc. equally shared.

I think instead of investing that much, it is better to put on the mining setup, as it is far more rewarding. I believe right now, it is possible to get it done in cheapest way with Powerminingpool.

The best projects are the ones that actually benefit from use of blockchain technology. These tend to be protocols, financials, markets, games/gambling, etc., along with the actual supporting blockchains themselves. Also, where there are competing companies (e.g. Golem and RLC) I don't try to pick the winner, instead I take a piece of both.

If i was you and I have that much of money I will definitely divide it into five equal parts and put each part on the tope 5 coins , I think that is the safety option.

yes for me BCC or LTC are equivalent as medium range risk with a possible pump as more scalable version of BTC but remaining always simple altcoin, the i would split your 20% for ICO in 10%ICO and 10%existing altcoin, cause at this stage al the market it's turned at the price range in BTC of the beginning of 2017, accordig both to history and project delivering, if you pick the right altcoin now you will get easy 10x

If you want to put 15K in crypto market then you have to put your money in parts and in 4 to 5 best altcoins.
35% in Bitcoin, 25% in Ethereum, 15% in Dash, 15% in Stratis and 10% in waves and put money in parts as many coins are at their peak price and can take some breath before go for another big move. This way, you can do cost averaging and get more profits.

I hope I could be of help to you. Here are my suggestion of altcoins that I think will give you good profit in the end. I have also posted this on another thread that asked for the top 10 altcoins. Well, here they are:

1. Ethereum
2. Waves
3. Monero
4. Ripple
5. Ethereum Classic
6. Stratis
7. Litecoin
8. Siacoin
9. Basic Attention Token (BAT)
10. Aventus

This is not necessarily listed in order. The last number might end up more profitable than the number 1. Anyway, I suppose you will also do some sort of verification. Your decision will be followed in the end.

If I have 15K now for coin, I will do as below.
10k - BTC
- 1k - Onion.
- 2K - Iota
- 1K - LTC
- 1K - ETH.

Thats just for coin, but If I have 15K, I will open a small workshop for o other stuff.

I appreciate all the replies so far. I have to say initially I wasn't planning to put as much into bitcoin as most of you suggested. I was more interested in ethereum. It seems I need to do some more reading. As someone mentioned I don't know much about trading but am interested in learning. I would like to make some short term money once I get a better grasp on it all.

If you have interested to learn then it is good start. Without willing to learn is nothing.
Short term trading really need good skill so before you have enough skill then dont start short term.
I also interesting in etherium so just put your capital more etherium.

Cover your bases with your first 15K.

That would be about 60% in BTC, another 30% in ETH and 10% in LTC. This would get your feet into the door.

Once you have that done, you can additionally invest a few hundred here and there into promising 2nd tier currencies

15k is a fairly large amount, and I think this would be provide a higher profit opportunity on  investing, if we choose the coins that are really right to invest.
By reviewing price developments to date, Well.. if I have $15k, I will invest it in Btc, Eth, Bch, Btg and Ltc.
Btc, Eth, and Ltc I will use as a long term investment, and for Bch and Btg I will make it as a short term investment.
45% Btc
25% Eth
15% Ltc
10% Bch
5% Btg

15k USD is a great start for an investment in altcoins.
-40% in Bitcoin
-40% in Etherium
And just buy some ltc for future purposes.
(There 3 are long time investments)

Then the rest just put on some ICO that has great project and the ICO's that you can trust. Investing with that kind of moneu is a big risk but, still for long tem investment you would earn a lot from now.

You should spread it into many new ICO projects, don't invest in only one because they could be scam you .

Short term: 100% BTC

Long term: 50% ETH - long term potential, will power all utility tokens
                 30% APPC - https://appcoins.io, low hard cap $15.3m, very strong user base but very low profile team
                 20% BTC - nobody is fired for buying BTC (unless working in JP Morgan)
