I was just wondering what exactly teams were , along with an explanation of what solo mining actually is.

I don't know about btcguild teams are for, but "Solo mining" means to mine without the use of a pool and is done by activating personal wallet (bitcoin-qt) server option and to configure a miner software (cgminer or another) to use your wallet to receive an, eventualy, block you discover but at actual hash power of the network the possibility to find a block (25btc) by "solo mining" can be achieved (in reasonable time) only with an hash power of hundreds of Gh/s.
