A major South Korean exchange, Upbit, has paid six people for reporting fraudulent crypto-related schemes. Ten cases were reported to the exchange and six of them were selected. Upbit also recently partnered with Thomson Reuters to operate a system to support transparent crypto transactions.

Following the announcement by South Korean crypto exchange Coinrail that it has been hacked, a local publication reported that some banks had identified suspicious transactions at the exchange and stopped providing services to company months before the incident.

This week four Bitcoin Cash (BCH) researchers and developers proposed a different transaction sorting process for the BCH protocol called ‘canonical transaction ordering.’ The proposed method would sort transactions against their identifiers, rather than the current topological transaction ordering rule, making it easier to for the network to process very large blocks.

The South Korean government is reportedly seeking to bring cryptocurrency exchanges under the direct supervision of the country’s Financial Intelligence Unit. This will obligate crypto exchanges to follow anti-money laundering directives like banks do. This is the first time a government agency has said it will oversee crypto exchanges.

Jonathan Johnson, the former chairman of Overstock, one of the first major companies to accept bitcoin as a means of payment, has detailed the revenues generated by the company in the form of cryptocurrency payments whilst speaking to the Heritage Foundation.

“We have somewhere between $68,000 and $120,000 a week in cryptocurrency revenues; people buying sheets and toasters using bitcoin or Ethereum or other coins,” Mr. Johnson told the conservative think-tank.

Cryptocurrency and initial coin offering (ICO) expert Phillip Nunn made a prediction in January that Bitcoin would reach lows of $6,000 and highs of $60,000. Nunn recently reiterated his confidence in the prediction after the price of Bitcoin plummeted almost 18 percent last week.

One of the most inconvenient things about international travel is getting stuck with foreign money that can’t be accepted in your home country. Luckily for passengers and visitors to Schiphol Airport, they now have the chance to experience the benefits of a truly global currency first hand and get rid of their fiat at the same time.

Bitcoin's (BTC) bears may be building for a strong comeback, having pushed prices to a eight-day low below $6,300 earlier on Friday.

The price fell to $6,286 on Bitfinex at 09:50 UTC, the lowest level since June 14, and, at press time, was changing hands at $6,326, down around 6 percent over 24 hours.

"Blockchain.Info Moving to Blockchain.com"

One of the oldest, most respected sites in the cryptosphere, Blockchain.info (Info), is moving domains. For many ecosystem veterans, Info was where it all started. First wallets. First block exploration. First real interaction with cryptocurrency. Recently, the group announced its move and plans for the future. It’s also a change signaling maturation of the space.

Bitcoin Price Defends $6K as Traders Go Long

Bitcoin's (BTC) price charts remain biased to the bears, but market positioning on a major exchange suggests a sustained break below $6,000 may remain elusive in short-term.

At press time, the leading cryptocurrency is trading at $6,100 on Bitfinex, largely unchanged on a 24-hour basis, and technically speaking, BTC remains on the defensive as discussed yesterday.

It has been an eventful 2018 for the cryptocurrency market, and Bitcoin especially. The top-ranked cryptocurrency has declined steadily throughout the year dropping nearly 70 percent of its mid-December 2017 high of $19,500. In June 2018, BTC has had a tumultuous time of it, dipping and rising several times. The number one cryptocurrency even set a new 2018 low by dropping below $6,000 twice. However, despite these difficulties, it appears there is hope on the horizon for BTC bulls.

Over 1,000 Cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin Forks are “Dead Projects,” Concludes Research

While not all digital tokens and cryptographic forms of money end up as a successful project, recently released statistics indicate hard forked coins, ERC20 tokens, and other cryptocurrencies have either closed down their development, relinquished their efforts, or misled amateur investors.

“Dead Coins”
Data collated by two digital currency tracking websites suggest over 1,000 digital currencies are “dead projects,” implying no scope of future development of their protocol with their prices decided only by market speculation. Dead Coins and Coinopsy, which conducted the research, grouped the projects under distinct reasons – ranging from coordinated pump and dump, investor fraud, faulty wallets, lack of funds, and in one case, developer death.

Over 800 cryptocurrencies are now dead as bitcoin is 70 percent off its record high

New digital tokens are created through initial coin offerings but some of these projects have been scams and many have not materialized into real products.

Bitcoin has fallen roughly 70 percent since its record high near $20,000 last year, adding to bearish sentiment around cryptocurrencies.

For no clear reason, a strange bullshit rumour that Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) was about to acquire Coinbase was about. Facebook has softened their stance on crypto ads but these do not appear to be the levers. Is it whales manipulating the market, is it a dead cat bounce? Are we going to stay at the bottom of this long dip, or will there be a bull run coming? There was similar behaviour in April, but that was a short mini-bull run. I would love to be an optimist, but I think it is just a blip, a short correction and we are going to sit at this dip for a while, at this corrected level.
