I would certainly buy through an exchange. I use coinexchange and Ktaken. I am sure others will recommend their favorites too.

As has already been written, set a buy offeron an exchange and wait to see if anybody wants to sell at the price you want to buy at.

This is the safest way to trade in my opinion.

How far off are the Bitstamp quotes from what you were hoping for?

I'm look at XRP quotes on CoinMarketCap right now (source) and see prices ranging from $0.5365/XRP from BuyBitcoin to $0.822 from CoinFalcon. I've never heard of either of these exchanges.

Most of the quotes are between $0.65 and $0.71.

Bitstamp is asking $0.692. This seems pretty fair. Why do you think it's not fair?

al least u don't need any escrow when trading on exchanges. maybe higher price but lower the risk.
