The forum has been too quiet regarding Defcon for this year.  Time for a meetup thread..
Like last year, I'll grab a table in the chillout room.  I haven't decided what the best day or time is, so I'm open to suggestions.  Chatting all things Bitcoin [and more] at the hacker-con was a blast last year.  Bitcoins were exchanged for bar-runs, donations were made to the Defcon kids Bitcoin challenge, and more-- so bring your mobile wallet.

Unlike last year, Pirate won't tell everyone he is going and no-show.  And if for some weird reason Pirate shows this year- you can give him a piece of your mind instead of all your BTC Grin

Discuss........

I see the value of Bitcoin, so I don't worry about the price...

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Not sure if you mean for DefCon attendees..  If attending Defcon- just show up.

If you're asking about Defcon, it is the annual hacker conference in Las Vegas.  It is Aug 1-4 at the Rio this year.
More info at defcon.org.

I'm going to Defcon for the first time this year; I'll be on the lookout for any bitcoin-ers. :p

Sounds like Def con is going to be awesome although I'm a little afraid of connecting my laptop to the wi-fi, haha.

I'm a little afraid of connecting my laptop to the wi-fi, haha.

This is the only downside to bringing Bitcoin to a hacker con - 3G/4G will be choked and you have to be DAMN sure of your wallet security to brave defcon wifi.

That said, I'm carefully selecting a Bitcoin shirt and heading to the Rio now. We need to get an actual meetup planned.

Waiting in line at the Rio right now, just saw someone holding a "I sell casascius coins" sign, haha. I'd be down for a meetup at some point.

need to pick up an RFID blocker... obv all cell radios off on the way in.  With that new Verizon spoofer, I'm considering going airplane mode unless I really need it.

Trying to find the hot Defcon parties. Want to mingle with some coders pretty badly.  If anyone has the hookup I'm a local in LV and possess this rare item called "a car" & totally willing to buy a meal / provide a wax pen.

#holleratme

Prolly gonna skank around the Rio otherwise play some $1-$2 NL / talk to other badges.

I'm just throwing away money on the penny slots, haha. The show with the performers wearing LEDs reacting to the music is pretty cool also.

After looking at the sched, it looks like Sat. 4pm in the chill out room would be good.
So lets shoot for 4pm. I'll try to get there a bit early and grab a table.

Rumor has it there was a "Satoshi Square" earlier today:

https://twitter.com/Tuxavant/status/363459845246042113

IMO during Defcon there should be one every day.

also, there was a sweet bitcoin-briefcase-ATM I saw pix of on twitter.

Sat 4pm Chill out room before the 5pm BTC panel sounds like a solid meetup.

Just got off the phone with Tuxavant:

1)  Chill out area bitcoin meet up 4pm  (Tuxavant said he will be there.  He is usually wearing a large bitcoin symbol.  I'll also be there wearing a Sealswithclubs had & silkroad shirt)
2)  5pm Defcon Bitcoin presentation
3)  6pm "Satoshi Square" in the smoking area right outside Defcon by the 2 sets of large double-doors. before you enter the Pavilion area proper.  COME BUY AND/OR SELL AND/OR TALK BTC LIVE!

I want to see that awesome pocket-change-to-btc briefcase
