what about command and conquer red alert 2  old but best  +1, I love that game... in multiplayer game you have a hope to recover even if you have just 1 building or 1 unit left (you could sell the building and get a unit from it, and then find a chest with MCV). |

Though you could find a mine as well... But you know, 1 unit or building is just a hope, not a guarantee to win ) At least you can continue playing, unlike warcraft, starcraft and many other games, where you can have a developed base, but if you don't have units and money, then you are done. |

Warcraft 3 was a lot of fun a few years back. I'm not sure if people still play it online though. But you did mention your playing with friends so it should be fine.

Supreme Commander, the second one sucks though and there's Rome Total War, I think everything Creative Assembly made after that has been crap sadly and DRM infested.

Me and my buddy completed last soviet mission on the first try, by crazy suicide tactics with only 2 second till countdown. It was the ultimate coop xperience Other CnC games like tiberian sun sucked a bit in multiplayer. Storywise they were awesome but multi lacked. |

I just bought Crusader Kings 2 the other day. I believe the genre this game belongs to is called "grand strategy." Most complex strategy game I've ever played. Crusader Kings 2 itself is kind of like a mix between strategy and RPG, where you have to shape your dynasty. There's also a Game of Thrones mod for it set in Westeros that looks pretty good, but I haven't played it yet.
