Hi guys, I just managed to set up everything to start solo-mining. At the moment, I'm using GUIMiner. However, after lurking around other forum posts, it seems like my hash rate is very low.

Could anybody explain to me if I am doing something wrong?

I'm using an ATI Radeon 5450. I'm pretty sure it's not using the CPU as the CPU level is staying below 1 percent usually.

Thank You!

Overclocked it yet?

Btw, I think you would make more money in a pool than solo mining. Solo there is no guarantee you will ever even solve a block.
Check out www.Bitclockers.com for more info on the mining pool.

Ok thank you.

So lurking around some more, I'm seeing people with hash rates many times faster than mine who are being discouraged from solo mining. Can anyone explain to me or post a link on how to join a pool? Also, could someone explain the mechanics of one? (How the Bitcoins are split, etc.)

Also, with my current card, would pool mining be worth it and how long would it take me to get a bitcoin?

Sorry for all the questions!

Many thanks

Best guide out there by far: http://bitclockers.com/forums/index.php?topic=3.0

Every block has 50 BTC (Bitcoins) inside. When a pool solves a block everybody gets a portion of the money.

Pools = small amounts of money fairly often.
Solo = large amounts of money, very long time. Not even a guarantee.
