Roger Ver is probably the world's first publicly known figure who holds 1B USD in Bitcoin.

https://www.dmarge.com/2017/12/winklevoss-twins-bitcoin-billionaires.html

Who hold more Bitcoin, the Winklevoss twins or someone else?

News media around the world is reporting that the Winklevoss twins are the world first bitcoin billionaires, stating they own 100,000 bitcoins. Congratulations to them.

Does anyone know who the other bitcoin whales are?

Who else but the infamous creator Satoshi Nakamoto? The head of crypto firm Sergio Lerner mined BTC and analyzed the path a wallet with of the first BTC created. which was traced to a single mining source. Holding roughly 980,000 BTC equaling to Billions.

This was indeed a great investment for them.

I am suprised to see, that noone posted or discussed the richlists of the bitcoin blockchain. Even though it might be easy to split the money into different addresses, one could easily check the wallets surpassing or not surpassing the amount of the Winklevoss Twins. They by the way just recently invested in the Blockstack ICO.

I'm sure there are few others that surpassed the twins' amount and just didn't make it public.

What do you think most or all of the whales did with their Bitcoin Cash after the fork?

Obviously these people aren't the ones who hold the largest sum of Bitcoins. The creators should be.

I think there are a lot more bitcoin billionaires out there but they are just not making their wealth and the money they made public because they want to keep the public eye off of themselves.

I think there are a lot more bitcoin billionaires out there but they are just not making their wealth and the money they made public because they want to keep the public eye off of themselves.

That is probably very true. Some people have made their wealth known or overplayed their wealth for self-promotion advertising purposes and others have tried their best to just stay under the radar and enjoy their wealth without having the need to use a loudspeaker to shout from the rooftops about how many Bitcoins they have.

After going through the horrible experience of the whole Facebook situation I am so glad the Winklevoss twins invested the very same money the Courts forced Facebook to pay them. They invested around $11 million dollars buying Bitcoin for around $100 each. They ended up with around 110,000 Bitcoin directly as a result of the money received from Facebook and now look where we are. Zuckerbergs personal weealth and Facebooks market capital has fallen as a result of various issues surrounding user data being misued and legal implications leading on to billions in fines in multiple vicinites. The US will do what they have to do to punish and reign in Facebook (for a while at least), the same will apply to the European Union.

While Zuckerberg and Facebook take a financial beating and have their reputation in tatters and face international lawsuits, the Winklevoss twins have kept a low profile and not seeked out any publicity. The Winklevoss twins have kept a diginified silence throughout and thoroughly deserve their wealth. I cannot recall them ever trying to influence the path of Bitcoin and force through forks like other whales have done. They seem like really nice people.

The irony is that within a couple of years if that, their Bitcoin holding alone with be worth more than Zuckerbergs Facebook stock and they managed to get there thanks to the penatly the Courts forced Facebook to pay the Winklevoss twins. Great karma Smiley

If this news is true then I would like to congratulate them because for me, owning a single bitcoin is very very big and they are holding 100000 bitcoin, then obviously they are the cryptocurrency whale and there could be many more people who are the cryptocurrency whales. It further depends on what time one come to know about cryptocurrency and started investing into it. As early as you came to know about this, the more the bitcoin you own, for now, I just want to know a single bitcoin.

I recall reading something like they received some $46 million as part of their settlement which allowed Facebook to avoid accepting they did anything wrong by stealing the Winklevoss twins' ideas but it wa sa convenient way to reach a settlelment.

I think they invested some $11 million of that money in Bitcoin and now have an exchange of their own as well. I congratulate them, they deserve success. Even though it seems like they paid a coder to make a website for them and it seems that coder stole their idea and launched a website for Harvard students called "thefacebook.com" they could have let it go but as a matter of principle they did not. They started litigation on the basis of matters of principle and in my view were entitled to billions in Facebook shares and not just $46 million.

I do not think that they are BTC creators. They would have disclosed this if they were as they would have got good promotion with such an announcement.

I think many people own Bitcoin more than 100,000Bitcoin, but they are probably making a profit by controlling this market silently. Many Crypto billionaires do not reveal their identities because they know that this can be dangerous to them and that they can become the target of criminal crime.

Anonymity is essential to many big and small players for a variety of reason. Becoming victims of crime, hacking, abductions or stings is probably top of the list but there could be many reasons why people do not announce their holdings. If I were a whale I would keep it quiet and not announce it to the world.

Many bitcoins at the start of the day in the mine have been lost as beginners do not know how to move them between hard drives to their other hard drives, as well as missing ones on USB drives and lost personal keys. Cool

This is true, you are absolutely right. There are too many people in the early days that lost coins and even now newbies make some errors resulting in lost coins. Even seasoned users can make errors too.

BTC creators I guess. However this information is secret i guess.

Not creators mate, but I think they can be more considered as early adopters. I think many early adopters have really harvested a lot from the risks they took during the time the cryptocurrency market was starting. Many people, years ago, didn't believe that cryptocurrency would make it this far and would be this big. Before, they just saw it as a scheme that would not prosper, so many people who have encountered it at first didn't believe in its potential. The exception or the few who did are now getting the fruits of the seeds they planted before. Lucky them!

You can easily mine bitcoins during that time with a cpu but now the difficulty gets higher and higher.

So those pioneers who bought, mined and got interest to bitcoin made their fortune for knowing and trusting bitcoin in the first place.

Many wallets became known as "Zombie" wallets because they have coins inside them but are not accessible because users have lost the passwords

And those bitcoins can be considered as burned bitcoins as there's no way to recover them anymore.

Poor zombie wallets, there's no way to recover them and those people who owns are really feeling bad for what they've done.
