Hi,

I'm still learning cgminer by trying to setup mining for various coins. I've been trying solomining FST (Fastcoin) for a couple of days, but it doesn't work for me. Using 1 7950 at 560 kh/s, according to calculators solomining should result in a block found every 0.02 a day (50 blocks a day) on average. I have run cgminer for almost 24 hrs, with not one single block found.

My gear is setup like this (username and password substituted here):

the conf file for fastcoin -qt:

server=1
rpcuser=*username here*
rpcpassword=*pass here*
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=9527
addnode=69.57.165.193 (and a few more addnodes)

cgminer is started using this line:

cgminer --scrypt -o 127.0.0.1:9527 -u *user name here* -p *pass here* --gpu-engine 895 --gpu-memclock 1500 -I 18

cgminer connects just fine, hash rate 560ish, but all I get is this:

 [2013-07-07 22:03:29] Network diff set to 16.1K
 [2013-07-07 22:03:29] New block detected on network
 [2013-07-07 22:04:01] Network diff set to 16.1K
 [2013-07-07 22:04:01] New block detected on network

Would be great if somebody who is successfully solomining FST could post a working combo here.

Your configurations looks OK. You should find several blocks a day. I assume you run cgminer and fastcoin-qt at the same PC... You can try to add parameter -s1 to cgminer line. And you can try to add some FST pool (could be p2pool) with stratum support to cgminer, as a failover.

That's all correct and mining. Solo mining is a lot about luck, you may find a bunch of blocks in a row, or you may find nothing. Just let it do its thing for a while and you'll get some blocks eventually.

What helps for me (with the same hashrate) is these two flags: -s 1 -Q 0
Should cut down on rejects.

Thanks PSL and TheSpiral for your input,

I'll tweak the settings accordingly.

Main reason I chose FST for testing solomining was the low difficulty --> should let me know fairly quickly if I'm correctly setup or not. Even when discounting for the luck factor, getting 0 of some 50 expected looks a bit too improbable, hence my post.

I'll let cgminer mine away for another 12-24 hrs with the adjusted settings, if I still haven't found any blocks by that time, I suppose that something somewhere isn't working correctly (and most probably on my side then).

18 more hours of mining at 560 kh/s, and still this is going nowhere, not one single block found - to be compared against the ~50 blocks that should be found per day on average.Something must be wrong...

I tried it! My old Ubuntu box with Radeon card (HD5750, hashrate about 160kHa) found a block in about 2 hours. It was one from 800 new blocks those were created during that time interval... Your card has 3 times higher chance to find a block!!

Code:
 cgminer version 3.2.2 - Started: [2013-07-08 20:40:37]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 (5s):171.6K (avg):167.2Kh/s | A:1  R:0  HW:0  U:0.0/m  WU:133.1/m
 ST: 3  SS: 0  NB: 847  LW: 905  GF: 0  RF: 0
 Connected to core.home diff 16.3K without LP as user FST
 Block: 57d1f777018f7b22...  Diff:16.3K  Started: [23:26:27]  Best share: 30.9K
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you mine in a pool, do you mine some coins? Try pool first. And you can try to solo mine some other coin that has lower difficulty; current FST difficulty is 0.24862287.

Once all fails, try to find a magic drink "LUCK"; you can get one at www.sfgame.net, it has red color... ;-)

PSL - thanks for trying this out! At that difficulty, you ended up pretty much on the expected average outcome for solomining Fastcoins, which is great news.

I just pool mined for 7 hrs using fastcoin.miningpool.co . This worked, but the outcome was very low. According to the pool my hashrate is 21 kh/s (cgminer puts me at 560). I got 101 shares during those hours which translated to 1.09 FST added to my wallet (93 of the 101), which is ridiculous. Solomining 7 hrs at 560 kh/s should render ~400+ FST on average. So not working great, for some reason.

The only reason I do this on W7 is the possibility of undervolting (no big deal now while testing, but would be later on if I start building a rig). I've switched back to solo now, if that turns out to be back at zero again, I'll try and make this work on Ubuntu instead before returning to W7.

Do you get rejected blocks or just none accepted or rejected?
Only other thing I could think of was if your internet connection had really bad latency and it took too long to submit the block so you keep on missing out.

Solomining I get none accepted or rejected, only the "network diff set" and "new block" going on and on.

Thanks for the suggestion, latency should be ok but I'll check it, plus I'll try using one of my backup connections and see if that changes things for me.

Here's what I use for my 7950's:

Code:
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o 127.0.0.1:9997 -u yourusername -p yourpassword -E 1 -I 20 -w 256 --thread-concurrency 33208 -s 1

This nets me appx 600Kh and you *should* get a couple or 3 blocks per hour. FST has been hinky the past few weeks, but you should still be hitting a good bit of coin per day.

Why would he want to have the cpu mining?

This is something different. You can do it but cgminer with GPU running at 550kHa should create more blocks than CPU that can generate between 0-50kHa. If you want CPU mining, try cpuminer from pooler, I guess it is more effective than build-in "generator" in fastcoind... Yes, you can run cpuminer and cgminer agains the same fastcoind node. cpuminer cannot use advantage of stratum when you connect it directly to fastcoind (no stratum) and cpuminer lacks support for fallback.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=55038.0

In general, I don't generate coins in fastcoind and I don't recommend to activate "setgenerate true"; it is not required.

According to the pool my hashrate is 21 kh/s (cgminer puts me at 560).

This is strange!! FST blocks are created fast, I see that between 3 and 5 blocks are created every minute; maybe it is the explanation that pool reports your hasrate such low... Try to mine different coin in pool, like LTC or FTC; what hash rate is reported by pool in that case? You should see similar hashrate like reported by cgminer.

According to the pool my hashrate is 21 kh/s (cgminer puts me at 560).

I tried it! HD5750 was mining for about 2 hours for a pool. Hashrate reported by cgminer is about 170kHa, pool reported values between 120 and 210kHa. About 600 new blocks were created during that time frame and I found no block this time but received from the pool 22 FST for shares I submited.
Current difficulty is 0.21643785.

Code:
 cgminer version 3.2.2 - Started: [2013-07-09 12:40:39]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 (5s):155.7K (avg):167.8Kh/s | A:337  R:5  HW:0  U:2.2/m  WU:160.8/m
 ST: 2  SS: 45  NB: 627  LW: 4982  GF: 0  RF: 0
 Connected to fast.minepool.net diff 63 with stratum as user PSLFST.1
 Block: 52dc40a6a240827e...  Diff:14.2K  Started: [15:12:47]  Best share: 12.1K
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess you have some problem, probably with your HW... Mine for a pool and try to find what is wrong with your hashrate. Once pool will report you that your hashrate is about 550kHa, try solo mining.

Thanks for posting your config darksoft. When doing the first tweaking of the card, any I value > 18 shut the box down, or gave me a BSOD. Will try your settings though. As some claim to get some 700 kh from this, my 560 seem a bit low...

Thanks claycoins, I measured latency but it seems to be on the right side of things. Anyway, currently in the process of testing solomining using 2 other ISPs. #2 --> no difference, #3 so far no difference either, but I'm still in the middle of that one.

Thanks PSL! I will have another go at pool mining and see what I get in terms of hash rate on the pool side.

Networking issues are almost off the list, I'm onto my 3rd Internet connection + have tried a couple of NICs, no difference.

Currently solomining again, ~6 blocks detected every minute, hash rate 536 kh, but no A:s.

I think that your GPU has some problem (could be driver problem). Try CPU mining for a pool, use cpuminer from pooler. This will prove that your NIC is OK and that pool is OK, etc..

Code:
$ minerd -V
cpuminer 2.3.1
libcurl/7.27.0 OpenSSL/1.0.1c zlib/1.2.7 libidn/1.25 librtmp/2.3

$ minerd -a scrypt -s1 -o stratum+tcp://fast.minepool.net:3334 -O username:password
[2013-07-09 15:56:49] 2 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm.
[2013-07-09 15:56:49] Starting Stratum on stratum+tcp://fast.minepool.net:3334

PSL, indeed the issue was with the GPU. I found this thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149895.0

Counter-intuitive as it may seem, the guy over there got his 7950 pool hash rates sorted by lowering the I parameter. I changed mine from 18 to 13, and lo and behold, things started moving. cgminer now shows 300 kh, the pool varies between 300-350. It's been up for some 40 minutes, 213 new blocks during this time, 181 accepted shares. The outcome in FTC so far matches expected levels as per calculator.

Will leave it mining for a few hours now, and then switch to see how solomining fares. And then I'll have to get back to tweaking the card settings, certainly hoping to get more than 300 kh out of my 7950.

Will report back...

Have mined both pool and solo since yesterday, both holding up pretty well.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.

PSL - if you PM your FST coordinates, I'll pass on some newly baked FST in your direction.
