For those running HP server power supplies: how hot do they get?

Just picked up my first HP 1200W PSU to try out.  It runs VERY hot, too hot to touch.  One time the fan did kick in to high speed and it cooled down but most of the time the fan is barely moving any air at all.  I'm only running 350W on 120V, so it's less than half of full load (full load on 120V is 900W).

mine is too hot too, but it is ok for those power supply.

I increased the load to 520W and the fan did eventually go to high speed but it took 3 or 4 minutes after powering on.  You could fry an egg on the case.

If this normal so be it but IMO it gets way too hot before the fan decides to kick in.

I wouldn't advise you to try to mine on a laptop if thats the case. Other than that you can try to clean the dust and try to make your room cooler. Machines can heat up very quickly and thats the "normal" beering in mind that you are mining with it which needs hell of a lot of energy and power so it heats up. It's like playing the mobile phone game that needs many of your resources and like your mobile is hot during few minutes of playing.

What are you talking about? Where did he mention a laptop? He is talking about a HP 1200 watt server Power Supply Unit (PSU).

Mine gets hot in one area around the mosfets(?) at the same end as the fan. I bought a faulty unit and cut a hole in the too of the case and fitted it to my good psu and run an external powered fan on top of it for piece of mind.
