I only ask this question because I do not think everyone is on the same page. I understand bitcoin is at an all time high. that means 50000 dogecoin that i lost some years ago is worth a hundred bucks. But it is only that high because of the value of BTC, the dollar value has changed greatly in altcoins due to the rise of btc value, but the satoshi value is low as fuck in every altcoin. I look at satoshi value as real value, because is btc goes down, you still have value regardless, but if you lose satoshi and dollar value , its game over, just a little change in your pocket going jingle jingle.  Am i looking at this wrong, or am i missing something. I look forward to all responses that are something other than people trying to up their post count or advertise some shit.

TLDR .. dont post some bullshit here, read the post and then post or move on

This is the most trickiest of all things to work out. When do you buy a coin, sell a coin, hodl a coin and then resell. I wish I had the answer but usually when a new coin comes out it gets a pump, on that pump it is wise to sell then buy on the dump and ride the waves. Also are you looking at your end game in satoshi or dollar value. Some coins have gone to the pits in sat value but have risen considerably in usd value.

I made the mistake of always looking at the dollar value so now I am looking more at satoshi value and that s where I will make my new end game play out, well here's hoping that is. I have done o.k ths year am not in loss, but I could have had 10 times more than what I got now if I had sold everything at BITCOIN VALUE ATH. So big lesson learned.  Smiley

I don't think this is what's happening right now. It's true we see some alt coins lose so much value as bitcoin gains value but this is kinda like natural selection. We had so many alt coins around that did not have a future from the begining. These type of coins could not stand against the wave as expected. On the other hand alt coins with strong background becaome stronger. Ethereum is the best example about this.

Altcoin living space increasingly fierce competition, I think it is because the number of altcoin too much, but also caused by good and bad. As you can see, ICO still dominated the altcoin financing market, even though Bitcoin now has an IFO. So I think, BTC is not the original sin that affects ALTCOIN.

No, i don't think so. I won't say it is in the process of killing off alt coins at all but the value of other coins may decrease because of bitcoin. Bitcoin's value is just increasing because it is the biggest coin as it is the original and the first cryptocurrency. Among the number of people who know about cryptocurrency there is a huge number of people who know only about bitcoins. Also if there are people who know about other coins most of them won't invest in it as they think they're not as big as bitcoin

Great question though. And it is probably... somewhat true. I mean many people will keep rejecting it as "look public comes into crypto currencies" but everyone knows real reason is bitcoin itself, except for some exceptional coins like monero or ethereum.

It seems true since almost all the altcoin btc price is falling and the btc price is rising over $11000, so I think it is a good way to sell altcoin and hold btc instead.

Yeah some of the altcoin becoming wothless due to the price increase in bitcoin but we can't say all altcoins were cleaned by bitcoin some of the altcoin making good price growth in this year.
The satoshi value is very low still but if it rises then bitcoin price will increase hugely I have read somewhere 0.01Btc will become $1M in some years but it is still long journey to reach that value. If that happen the price of altcoins also will increase.

if you do not want to hear about nonsense from other members in this forum maybe I just want to explain from the other side only. I think this is the greatness of bitcoin where bitcoin is like a magnet for investors who want to invest in crypto and of course the bitcoin that investors choose today and this is evidenced by the continuing rising prices of bitcoin today. if you think this will be a problem for altcoin what you are doing right now is an investment on altcoin then why do not you switch to invest in bitcoin this is only my advice if you want to do that and if you think with what i say in your opinion this is wrong it is your right.

I think not, because it really depends on the coin. Many people or should I say most of the people talking about coins or alt coins support bitcoin making other coins lower or ignored. But that's not always the case, some altcoins also has many people who support it take ETH as an example, the community that supports ETH is also massive, making some people believe that ETH can overpass or beat bitcoin in the future. It really depends on the coin, projects, and the number of people that supports it.

I agree with you on the end game being in BTC and not USD or other fiat.
The recent BTC move to 11k has validated the logarithmic BTC-Price chart and it's implications, at least in my oppinion.

As for alts I do not think that they will die, but am also unsure if they will go as high as they used to be.
My portfolio (mostly alts) tanked 50% in BTC but went up 30% above ATH in USD, so this would mean if my alts would go to their BTC value before 11k-Move I'd be in massive profit and this is unrealistic.
E.g. if an alt that tanked 50% (many did more) rises to a new ATH it means the BTC value goes up 50%+ but that same BTC did a 100%+ during the 11k-Move.

TLDR: I don't think that people will be willing to pay the same amount of sats for an alt now that the sats itself have doubled.

Maybe we all should draw a big vertical line on our alt charts for the 11k-Move and call it a new era for alts now, establish new prices and expectations.

Smiley

And in other cases you could have probably had so much more because of just holding.

Well, you are probably right. Bitcoin is unstoppable, I mean its mooning is really unstoppable at the moment. And that makes alts bleed so hard. My alts are all bleeding right now sadly. Let them breath please?

Most likely it looks this way! No one had the idea that Bitcoin will make such moves and this has lead to all alternate currencies going to the floor. I am very worried about my alt holdings this time.

When you are so powerful, you do just some politics toward your enemies. If you are not powerful in fact, you pretend to be powerful through some shows of force.

this is true, if altcoin value is depends on BTC value in USD
but in this moment not all altcoin lose their BTC value,, there is a lot of altcoin still rising,
note: not a pump and dump coin,,
for example : chaincoin,, an old coin now start increasing the value in Satoshi and USD

I don't thingk bitcoin is in the verge of killing the alts. What happened really is, before, a lot of people have invested in altcoins, but since hard forks that came and gave free money along with it, many investors converted their alts to bitcoin in order to get more of the free coin. Since then the alts has continually gone down.

Not bitcoin will kill altoins, and they will start to die out, because as well as capitalization will go to zero. But still I think that the tokens will suffer most, since those projects based on which they lie will not show the real product, where they are applicable. This process will not come in early 2018, but I think by the end it's for sure.
