I'm researching the Antminer S9 and have several questions I'm not finding answers to.

+ What is the OS of an Antminer S9? Is there any documentation for it? (bitmain has only very simple setup steps)

+ Does it come with a miner app? Do I have to use that app? Is it compatible with other linux mining apps?

+ How much storage/hdd space is there to install other apps?

+ Will it even support other apps?

+ If I want to secure access to the miner does it support ssh? Will it support other apps I might want to add? will it support PAM modules?

+ My machines might need to be on a shared network, so I'm trying to figure out what I can do to secure the miner on the miner directly or do I need to put it behind a dedicated firewall to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

1-4) The S9 has an integrated controller on it that runs the GUI for setup and the mining software.  You don't do much other than setup the pools where you want to mine, and you don't load other programs or apps onto it.
5) Yes, SSH is supported.
6) Behind firewall of some sort or else you can get 'hijacked' where the pool info is changed without your knowledge and you're then mining for someone else.
HTH, and Mine On!  Cool

I'm looking at having them hosted (not my preference) for a few months because I don't have a place to set up at the moment, so securing access is one of my main concerns.  I still don't like that they will have physical access to the machines, but my choice at the moment is to wait 9 months or have them hosted ....

If you dont trust a hosting service with your software, why would you send them any hardware?

Stop buying industrial miners, running them at home, and then complaining about the noise.
