Assuming the initial investment made to be around the 2012-13 mark, it was a pretty big gamble they took and it definitely paid off. From $120 to $12k is x100 in itself and with a $11 million investment back then, they have turned into billionaires! Wouldn't be surprised to hear more stories of early investors turning into billionaires by today as we're eyeing the $15k mark before 2018!

Well it's still a paper profit or unrealized gains cuz I'm sure they would like to keep it and become trillionaire in a year or so Smiley Tomorrow this investment could become $0. Always diversify your portfolio reducing a risks and increasing a profit. These guys are smart enough and will succeed for sure. Gratz.

well they took a risk by investing this much money into bitcoin and believed in its future. in fact, they studied bitcoin and understood its potential instead of wasting their time with social media and all the naysayers who kept saying bitcoin is dead, bitcoin is bubble, it will fall and die, blah blah!

and when you take educated risks like this, you are rewarded for it greatly. and when you gamble, and do things emotional you lose a lot of money.

There is a FOMO brewing...

There are two of them, so you have to divide it by two. ^smile^  All of us have to appreciate the guts it took, to invest in a unknown commodity/currency in a time when it was still unregulated and a lot of hostility existed towards Bitcoin from all sides. These guys earn every cent they own in Crypto currencies and we owe them some gratitude for what they have contributed to the success of this experiment.

When others criticised Bitcoin, they invested and tried to build ETF's and Gemini from the ground up. Well Done boys!

Hope to see that Bitcoin ETF in the near future. ^smile^

Well it all depends if they have withdrawn the amount or not. But if they are holding today, then we would say that there is no luckier than them.

It is necessary to ask, who such and whether they could invest such a sum. And another thing is interesting, why they do not leave the market or can know something.

These kind of news are the ones people should be reading and the ones who always talk negative about bitcoin.

I think that this is something that motivates other individuals who have invested in bitcoin. The fact that we are talking about this rates on a cryptocurrency would have been unheard of a few years back but now, this is something of a reality

These Winklevoss brothers are one of the most popular investors in Bitcoin and I think there are more who remained anonymous or do not want any limelight focused on them as they are enjoying watching their Bitcoin soared into the sky and becoming billionaires too. It was indeed a big gamble for anyone to invest millions in those years when nobody can be sure what can happen with Bitcoin in the future. As proven by the twins, the gamble paid off big time because Bitcoin as the first and the original viable cryptocurrency made it to the moon. Aside from these Bitcoin billionaires, there are also many who became millionaires in the process as long as they never sold off their Bitcoin hoard when the price was already enticing. As the journey of Bitcoin continues, there would be more riches to be made although this time we really need a bigger capital if we plan to have a sizable Bitcoin holding.

They became a billionaire because they took the right opportunity, if only they were a year late I'm sure they are not as rich now.

At that time no one exactly knows what will happen to bitcoin or how much it's price can be in the future. And I was amazed by their dedication to believe that they can benefit a lot from bitcoin, investing $11 million for bitcoin once thought cannot reach this far. They deserve billions for such patience. And I think they are already billionaire when they invest on bitcoin that day, so I guess now, they are more than just billionaire.

I agree. I actually have my doubts on whether the twins are the first BTC billionaires (or half-billionaires). There could be other individuals that have just as much but have it spread across multiple addresses.

I heard a story of a unlucky Irish person who wasted his 7500 Bitcoin when it's price was below 1 Dollar. He couldn't believe that Bitcoin has any spirit but in recent time he regrets a lot. You know how much unlucky he is...
So in every platform, there is both positive and frustrating story. So far I know a lot of people have earned huge money through this platform. Someone maybe a billionaire also...

I heard from my friend that a person spent 10000 BTC just buying a pizza in 2010. I thought he or she must be very sad. If he or she kept BTC untill today, he or she must become billionaire.

I honestly believe they dont care about the money part, I think it has to do about proving to their colleagues and their family that they are something not to reckon with.  They are nice guys who did just that.  We all should be kissing their arses.
