Well, after world war 2, the US actually focused on weapons technology and actually funded them to advance the military. After the world war 2, they got all the Nazi scientists and actually used them to research on how to move forward their military might. From then on they waged war to learn from it. Also, not to mention, there alot of unsactioned hits by the government

It's a combination of factors:

- as mentioned above, large-scale weapons research in WWII lead to nuclear supremacy and the rise of the military-industrial complex

- many politicians have ties to the military-industrial complex and thus have a vested interested in the use and sale of armaments

- simple economics: the US is a very rich and very large country. It spends a much higher percentage of its already-high GDP on the military.

- geography: the US is very difficult to attack (as it is a huge island), even if someone should want to. So throughout history, the Americans have suffered fewer setbacks and have had more time to build an industrial infrastructure that could later be put to military use.

- advertisement, patriotism, nationalism: many US citizens are very patriotic. They can have a more favorable view towards their own country's interests and protecting these from threats. They may also be more likely to endorse violence as an acceptable solution to a political issue, where other countries might try negotiation.

Simple, I think that the U.S allocates a nice portion of the country's budget to military affairs. Got to keep the homeplate safe, it's the most important base. That way, you can take the opponent out before they get a chance to steal, and slide home (baseball analogy).

that is the Russian army. This is the most powerful military in the world. They have a lot of weapons out there. there are carriers, there are nuclear missiles. Russian military is highly disciplined and distributed throughout the world.

United states of course is the most standard military standing in the world because they invest a huge portion of their budget into the military for research and development.

It should be quite obvious, the biggest single country economy in the world and they utilize a very high percent of their budget to fund military projects. If you are a rich and stable country, it is always politically prudent to spend lots of money on the military - the "heroes". Easy way to secure votes, if you lower it down or take it away, then people will say you are against the military that have wide support.

The problem is, when you have such a large and sophisticated army, you need something for them to do - or it looks like a pointless waste of money. That's why wars like Afghanistan and Iraq happened. Another trickle down negative side affect is the militarization of the police force, through all the unnecessary weaponry left over.

They did focus on it, but it was since the beginning of WWII (for them). In 1942 Japan had the most powerful navy in the world and the USA couldn't match it, so they turned to plane strikes. They built more aircraft carriers and bombers, flying fortresses and all that stuff. The result of that was they managed to destroy most of the Japanese navy, occupy Japan, and while Europe was in ruins after the war they had a booming industry that was pumping all kinds of military vehicles and ships.
