With an ever increasing number of alt coins is there an estimate of how much different alt coins there are? Surely they will not all survive and the most likely ones to survive are the ones which somehow will have enough confidence from people to trade them for goods / services (or money).

Here you are : https://coinmarketcap.com/

Go to the left on the top side, and there you have this number: Cryptocurrencies: 1335

but those are only the ones who are listed in there, there are thousands of coins, but they are not considered as real tokens because they are not even listed in there.

With an ever increasing number of alt coins is there an estimate of how much different alt coins there are?

This, it doesnt matter how many altcoins are there, the only thing who is important is if there are any people using that coin for different purposes.

ones to survive are the ones which somehow will have enough confidence from people to trade them for goods / services (or money).

I would say there is close to 2k currencies if not more in the crypto market. That is because not all the tokens are listed on coinmarketcap because they either can't get to an exchange or are a freshly made coin which has yet to try and get on exchanges. You would think that all the currencies need an application or use case but people like to speculate and that is probably the main reason for a lot of these coins. The ones with actual use case with get a lot further than the pump and dump coins that is for sure but the pump and dump coins may still hang around because again people like to speculate and try and make more BTC.

Yea, I wish there was some accurate number out there. But all you have to know is that there's a lot and the SEC is coming after the scammers lol

There are many altcoins but how many of them will survive? It is a good question. Event many of them are not listed on coinmarketcap. I think we should just focus on coins which are unique and promising. And if you search in forum you can find many unique coins.

All it takes is research.
You can find pretty much any coin that has a value on it through the coinmarketcap website.

Coinmarketcap does a good job listing most altcoins, but remember that it is not always up to date if you want the most accurate numbers. There are probably hundreds of coins and ICOs that are yet to be listed there currently.

How many hundreds of tokens did not exist, by the end of 2018 there will be few of them, and a large number will go to the dustbin of history. In the case I will be mainly infrastructure projects, which cover a large number of users and bring real benefits.

I seem to remember seeing about 600 or so different coins on exchanges. That is those that have movement and are not dead.

I love that site. I go to it all the time. The OP just needs to visit that site and all the questions are answered.

No one knows the exact number of altcoins, as hundreds if not thousands of ICOs are listed as we speak, and many more are not even listed yet. However, most of the listed ones can be found on www.coinmarketcap.com

I also check www.coinmarketcap.com, but new coins / tokens are created everyday and this site doesn't list them all. Was just wondering about the sheer number of them.

There has been a lot of altcoins ( and they are still being produced) but just small percentage of them will survive ( especially those who can solve digital related problems) ; you can surf coinmarketcap website to take a view ( but the inconvenient with it : it's not instantly updated so you have to frequently visit it )

Bit of an open question really, Number of reputable altcoins? Total number of altcoins? Altcoins worth investing in?

As others have stated coinmarketcap tends to list majority of them but there'll be people just tinkering with code theoretically creating new alt coins and building new functionality every hour I expect.

What cares? Honestly eh gives a damn? It doesn't matter and you asking the wrong questions. You should be asking about individual coins you have interest in and go research the site the person who commented first recommended. coinmarket is a great site and wealth of knowledge so please check it out then come back and ask some more questions I'm sure you will have a few. There are still thousands of other types of circulating in the market and certainly can dominate the market anytime. Most of the perpetrators of cryptocurrency do a lot of mining and buying and selling using this digital currency.

Altcoin only as a bridge to get big profits for those investors and developers. I think only a few can survive. Altcoin that appears now only makes an idea. Without any continuation of development. So be careful if we want to invest in a newborn altcoin.

in this crypto world, power is an elimination of something weak. the extent to which the coin can survive with so much competition.

Yes everyday any other new coin listed in the market and not all coin will promising, any others coin will left by investor, so now important to learn and to understanding the fundamental of each coin because i show any coin dead and loss in value.
