5k BUDGET just for GPUs. I'm stuck..

Hi all,

I'm brand new here to the forum but have been researching about mining coins for the past 2 months. I have a budget of 5k just for GPU's for my first build. I am looking to purchase the most efficient, best hash/power ratio etc. I would love to hear some input from someone who has experience! Thank you for your help!

I have done lots of research but I'm stuck between the 1070 ti or 1080 ti.. I guess I should've made that clear.. Is the 1080 ti worth spending the extra money I guess is what I want to know.

If you're looking at 1070ti's and 1080tis you need to go back to square one.  I can build an entire 13GPU rig for 5k vs 5 or 6 of your cards.

It is super hard to find a stock for some areas and/or you can find stock yet they are highly-priced due to the miners literally buying all of them. I am afraid that Vega GPUs are going to be just like the ethereum rigs that were made this year, increased difficulty will prevent the earnings.

My personal thought is to go for the 1070ti you can still get a few decent deals here or there and they are very efficient.  I would try to snag some open box version if you can of the 1080 ti from Micro Center if you have one near you and mix and match a little when there are great deals available.  Scale your system you dont need to buy all the cards at once to start mining.  Buy 3 or 4 to start and then just start looking for the best deals and grabbing one when you see it.  After the holidays may be a good time if people start returning certain version they dont want and you may be able to pick up a used version with a warranty for cheap.

With 5k budget, and looking for these spec. meaning in best ROI, I think you should consider like: 1st option is the best one: AMD Vega 56/64 for CryptoNight algorithm, another good choice is purchasing 1070 Ti or 1080 Ti (I prefer 1070 Ti more).

When all people use it, didn't mean that's the better. You need to have your own fashion. Some people said X card is the best the other one said Y card is the best. You just need to read carefully technical data from the card that will you buying. Doing some research in legit review. After all, learning by doing is a better way.

Most fastest money back for GTX1060, if you want fast money back. But for 5k you buy many gpu 1060 and need more power and free space for placing rigs. If you want to start at home buy high end class gpu, so you save space and power.

You're missing a critical part in your question which is the prices. It's all always about the prices. There's just no best GPU out there, and prices fluctuate a lot, especially in times like these, when profitability goes up. 1060/3, 1060/6, 1070, 1070 Ti, 1080 and 1080 Ti are all good cards for mining, and each and every one of them is a good choice provided the price is right. But they're often not priced proportionally to their hashrates. That's why a lot of people buy 1060s — because in most markets 1060/3 is two times cheaper than 1070, but it's not two times slower, not even close. And in many markets 1080 Ti cards are just too expensive for what they are. And 1070 Ti cards might cost almost the same as 1080.. So the only way to make a choice is to write down the prices you've got in your region, write down each card's hashrate and power consumption, and look at that data long and hard.

Thank you all for the feedback! I will keep reading before I jump into it. I like all the different ideas from you all!!! It just made my decision even harder now, thanks, haha. I plan on using a server psu to power my farm and cut power cost by .01 or so. I'm not so much worried about the power cost with it being at .08kw/h in my state, but I know this is still cost effective. Again, thank you all for your responses. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside with all the feedback for a newbie
