CALICO MINER

Hello everybody, I'm presenting my AVALON mining project. Comments are welcome! Updates will be published regularly in this thread! Cool

Project description:
  • 1.2-48GHash
  • Stand alone system with direct connection to LAN/WLAN
  • Smallest entity: 4 ASIC chips
  • 10 Units (40 chips) will be daisy chained and combined with one single cooling solution
  • 4x10 Units = 160 chip solution with one network interface
  • 48Mhz ARM microcontroller based
  • efficient 180W cooling capacity for 40 ASIC chips

Advantages:
  • 180W cooling solution for 80W ASIC chips, so 100W remaining overclocking reserve
  • Quiet cooling
  • Temperature controled fans
  • Current measurement for power consumption calculation
  • Each entity (4 ASIC chip unit) has a unique hardware serial number
  • Pairs of 2 ASICs can be overclocked and configured independently of the other ASIC chips
  • External 1.2V supply allows flexible overclocking and voltage tuning
  • 1.2V voltage monitoring
  • 3.3V voltage monitoring
  • When 1 ASIC fails, only one chain (2 ASICs) is disabled and the remaining chips continue to work
  • Temperature sensor
  • Modular design (40x mining board, 1x power supply, 1x base board)
  • Effective repair by changing only the defective 4 ASIC chip module

Project status:
  • Schematics mining board: completed
  • PCB layout mining board: completed
  • Production mining board: completed
  • Prototype test mining board: not started yet
  • Mikrocontroller programming mining board: work in progress
  • Schematics base board: work in progress
  • PCB layout base board: not started yet
  • Production base board: not started yet
  • Installation operating system base board: completed
  • Cgminer programming base board: not started yet

Availability of assembling service:
  • Software: Will be published as open source
  • PCB-board: Can be purchased for DIY projects
  • Assembling service: Depending on the feedback an assembling service will be offered
  • Estimated target price for a 40 chip system including cooling: 350€
  • Complete 48GH/160chip system including cooling without power supply around 1400€
  • All needed AVALON ASIC chips have to be provided by the customer!
  • Prices strongly depend on the total quantity of units!

Europe, Germany, Worms, that's the name of the town Wink

I'm aware, that it's a bit late. The main purpose of my project is not to depend on the development, production and delivery of the other AVALON ASIC board projects and to provide an alternative solution mainly for the european market.

Thank you Smiley The ASICs are packed as dense as possible for a good placement according to the CPU cooler. Hopefully the circuit paths for the supply will be large enough for the current on the 1.2V line. But since groups of 4 chips have their own supply it should be feasible. PCB delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, so hopefully end of next week I can present further results.

BTC Payment accepted and worldwide shipping possible, but please note that I need the AVALON ASIC chips from you for the production! Please be patient for the functional prototype!

Is this project still being developed? I am interested.

Yes, I had 3 week of holiday, at the moment I'm busy with programming and quite optimistic to get running board for the chips I've ordered. Unfortunatly the chip delivery is delayed, so probably it doesn't make sense to invest further money for a professional production.

For how many chips to you need a solution?

sadly, thats what I was afraid of hearing.  I was hoping the first 42 avalon chips I recieve built into your design.  I really like it a lot, so sad to see that yifu's delays ruined everything.

In any case I will finish the design and start the production for the 250 chips I've ordered. I will build 6 boards with 40 chips each. The problem is that for such a low volume even the wholesale price for the components, pcb and automatic assembly will be higher than the bitburner board. If you are interested in a 40 chip module I can offer you to build it together with my 6 modules for my own demand.

I will keep you informed!
