Hi guys,

I'm building a mining rig and thanks to this forum, I got lots of help and support from you guys.  Smiley

Right now, I am looking for suggestions on PSU. My rig will have 6x GTX 1080ti cards.
I've found the Antec HCP1300 Platinum 1300W in the market near me. Will a single HCP1300 be enough for the rig? If not, what do you suggest?

I run 5 * 1080ti off a corsair HX1200 pulling 1100 at the wall.
I think 6 from a 1300W is pushing it - go the 1600 EVGA or 1500 Corsair.

I run either 2 EVGA 850's and have since migrated to all 1600w EVGA T2's. Once I get in the warehouse and don't care about the noise I'll do the rest w/server PSU's

No matter what you do DO NOT GET BELOW 1200W. I have 5 RX 480 on 1200PSU and its barely enough. You definitely need to get a 1600PSU.

Yep, exactly what artixtn said, don't skip my boy.


I've had  cards reset and go to 100% for no reason, so don't think just because you're running low tdp and rig is sitting pretty under 1kw you're safe, things happen, if cards go to default you'll be happier 'n hell you have a nice buffer. Plus running the PSU's on a lower load is always a good thing.

It's never good to fully use a PSU, you lose power efficiency and make them hot, unstable etc..., better keep about 70/80% load max, 70% being ideal imho. Most manufacturer give numbers about efficiency that are @50% load, above often means less efficiency. It's even more important to respect that for a PSU that run 24/7, so yes, always count 30% more power than needed at least  Cool

I vote for the pair of EVGA G2 850 (or Seasonic X-850/SS-860 if you can FIND them) option.

 Go with a 1000 G2 (1050 on the Seasonic X-series) for the PSU that is running the MB/HD/RAM stuff IF you plan to push the cards hard though.

 Corsair is - iffy, some of their lines are made by GOOD manufacturers like Seasonic or SuperFlower's "Leadex" line, others are total junk.

 I gave up trying to keep track of which was which a long time ago.


 The other issue you WILL run into is power connector limitations - if you use 1080 ti models with 2 x 8-pin power, you're going to have to go with something bigger than an 850 - if you use at least *2* 1080 ti models that are 8+6 pin, it won't be an issue with the EVGA G2 850 or the Seasonic X-850 / SS-860 models.

Thank you very much for all the feedback guys. If 2x850 does the job for 6x 1080ti, will 2000w do the job 8x 1080ti or should I go for 2400w?

Also, how much RAM would I need for the rig of 8x 1080ti? Will 4gb be enough or I need 8gb?

Sure it'll "do the job" but if you can afford it, it's always better to leave as much buffer room on the load as you can.

Ofcourse but i see no reason to run the cards at that high wattage unless you live under the conditions i mentioned.
1800w of heat from one rig alone is pretty much.

It doesn't mean that you will spend 2kW. It's recommended power reserve for this config of 6x1080Ti. It can be easely run 1080Ti with good hashrate at average consumption of 220-240W each. But on determine algorithms some power peaks of 270-280W can appear. And in the case of all six GPUs in the same time reach that peak the PSU should able to stand.

You also need the reserve capacity to handle SPIKES out of the cards - cryptocoin mining does NOT draw a "flat, even flow" out of the power supply though it's not QUITE as bad in general as gaming is about that.

Thanks for the feedback guys. So I finally went with these configuration:

> 8x MSI GTX 1080ti Gaming X
> 8GB RAM
> Biostar TB-250 BTC Pro
> Intel G4400 Skylake Dual-Core
> 8x Molex risers
> WD Green 120GB SSD

To power this, I bought:
2x CoolerMaster V1200 Platinum Power Supply

Will the two V1200 do the job fine or should I get an additional small power supply to separately power up my motherboard and risers?
And how much hashrate should I expect?

If you keep the TDP on each card set to 200 watts, you should be fine. Perhaps 220, your MB/RAM/SSD setup is pretty low wattage.
You could push the TDP on the 4 cards that are NOT on the same PS with the MB/SSD/etc another 10-15 watts without issue.

 Push them to higher TDP and you will probably see a bit less stability up to ballpark 230/250 watt range, but you're seeing VERY poor hashrate gains by the time you get to that point, if any at all, so there's no real point in doing so.

 As I recall the CoolerMaster V series is Seasonic built, but has some really WIERD connections to the power supply and I'm not sure if it uses a good Ball Bearing fan.


 At the 225 watt level, each card should pull in the ballpark of 740-760 sol/s - probably towards the lower end of that range as they don't have the cooling of an Aorus which will limit how high they can boost clock on the core a little.

 If you aim for good efficiency, run them around 150 watts for about 620 hash/card seems to be at or very close to the best efficiency point, 125 watt level drops enough hashrate that efficiency DROPS a bit, 175 pushes around 680 which is still decent efficiency but noticeably starting to drop.
