Hey HCP.  Okay i uninstalled waves and then btc.  Then i installed btc, bitcoin cash and bitcoin gold wallet.  I did not do the firmware update to 1.5.5.

I then added bitcoin cash in the accounts and have it showing.  Then i click receive to show my bitcoin cash address and it starts with a 1.  Then i did this with bitcoin gold and then when i click receive bitcoin gold, it shows an address that begins with the letter A... that is correct?

Okay so right now i have all the wallets added to my nano ledger s.

Im going to download electron cash on my same windows 10 computer and do as you mentioned.  And I will be sending tiny amount of bch from electron cash to test it out by sending tiny bit of bitcoin cash first to it to make sure i receive in ledger first.

Then i send the rest.

And last one before i confirm.

But just to make sure of this

How do you want me to type electron cash to visit website to make sure i get to the correct one.

Do i type in

https://electroncash.org

Because when i type in electron cash on google

first link that shows up has it spelled this way.

I want to make sure this is the correct electron cash as others say don't use google as it could lead you to a fake wallet.

I took a look at the electroncash site and i should click on download latest version 4.0.0 right in the middle of the page correct?

HCP sorry for posting this in a new post but the one above it looks too long.

I downloaded electroncash from me typing out on address bar

https://electroncash.org

Then i downloaded it on the windows installer.  When i try to open it, i get message from windows its unrecognized, do you want to run anyway.  I click yes right?  Did everyone here receive this message first before opening electroncash?

That sounds about right... I believe that Ledger generates "legacy" addresses for Bitcoin Cash... Electron Cash will still be able to send to that. It even has a builtin address converter.

Don't TRIPLE space every single sentence then! Tongue

That's simply Windows 10 being Windows 10... unless you pay Microsoft for the privilege of having a digital signature, it'll flag as "unknown publisher". If you want to check the authenticity... simply follow their recommended procedure for verifying the downloaded files: https://github.com/Electron-Cash/keys-n-hashes

Yes... just like you would with Electrum... "Standard Wallet". Then input your Electrum seed... it'll create a wallet and you should see a BCH balance that matches whatever BTC balance you held in Electrum at the time of the original Bitcoin Cash fork.

HCP thanks.

Do i want to leave password for my wallet keys?  Im planning to first send a tiny amount of bitcoin cash first to my nano ledger s.  Then once that goes through, i will send the rest of it.

But is it better to put a password in my case or not?  Did you do it?  I assume you sent your bitcoin cash pretty quickly after getting it from electron cash right?  I just want to do exactly what you did.  Im on the page where it ask me if i want to put a password to encrypt the keys.  Obviously with electrum I did this.  You want me to put one for electroncash here?

Set a password or don't... it doesn't make any difference if all you are going to do is immediately transfer BCH from this Electron Cash wallet to your Ledger... and then never use Electron Cash again.

Setting a password simply encrypts the sensitive information (seed, xpriv etc) within the Electron Cash wallet file... (and possibly fully encrypts the entire file if you select that option during wallet creation). Do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Hey HCP thanks a lot!  Got the bch and then sent it to my ledger nano in a few increments just in case.  I been wanting to do this since i posted this thread.

The bitcoingold wallet you posted

https://bitcoingold.org/electrumg

That is the confirmed site for bitcoin gold right?  I went through old posts of mine and check old threads and you posted about bitcoingold.org/electrum and you posted use it at your own risk but that thread was from a while back.  Because i recalled a while back you got your bitcoin gold through another program and not this one.

Coinomi on an android was what others suggested last year i believe or when it first came out to use it.

Very little point claiming anything other than the BCH at this point... the rest aren't really worth anything unless you had "a lot" of BTC (10+) at the time of the forks Tongue

For reference, BTG is currently at $12... Bitcoin SV is $65...

Also, there is no reason for you to use a different device to claim each fork... ie. BCH using laptop and BTG using android phone... just do it all on the laptop.

Then what about the bitcoin sv?  How do i claim that?
For the record, Ledger don't support Bitcoin SV, you'll need to find a Bitcoin SV wallet to store them: https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012270054-Safely-claim-Bitcoin-Cash-SV-BSV-

As far as I'm aware, there was a special version of Electron Cash created that enabled one to claim Bitcoin SV... instructions with pretty pictures here: https://github.com/markblundeberg/coinsplitter/blob/master/doc/coinsplitter_user_guide.md

HCP, did you use

https://bitcoingold.org/electrumg

To Claim Your Bitcoin SV?

And if so, where do you keep your bitcoin SV?  Because nano ledger s there doesn't seem to be a wallet.  So you keep it in that program you downloaded?  Or you sent it to an exchange like binance or bittrex since they have those wallets?  Of course keeping it in exchange is not good idea if you are holding.

ElectrumG is for Bitcoin Gold... NOT Bitcoin SV. Bitcoin SV is a fork from Bitcoin Cash

bitcoingold.org is the official website of Bitcoin Gold... ElectrumG is linked from there. The only reason I said "use at your own risk" is that I am not vouching for that wallet. It looks "OK", and as far as I'm aware there have been no known thefts directly attributable to that wallet, but I am not going to guarantee that it is 100% safe.

I've no idea about Bitcoin SV... as far as I can tell, there isn't even a Windows client for the official Bitcoin SV release. There are supposedly some forks of the official client that support Windows, but I am not going to vouch for or link them.

Hi, yes i know ElectrumG is for bitcoin gold.  Okay since you don't vouch for it... i will most likely stay away from that.  But what did you use specifically to get your bitcoin gold a while back then?  Was it coinomi?  So basically you have heard others say bitcoingold.org gets you bitcoin gold from other users and you have not heard anything negative out of this right.  That seems to be pretty safe then i say but for me as you know, im always paranoid.  What is your best recommendation for me to claim my bitcoin gold?  Is it coinomi?

So you had your btc in the nano ledger s when the bitcoin SV fork happened right?  So are there even ppl that claimed their bitcoin sv yet?  I mean thats a very long time since the fork came out in November?  I mean i would have thought having it in ledger... that would be easier.  But those who kept it in exchanges like coinbase, binance and bittrex were basically given it then?  Thus it would been better to keep the bitcoin cash there those days instead?  Thus we had no idea how ppl would get the bitcoin SV from it if they had it in nano ledger?  What about those with bitcoin cash in electroncash?  Is it just the same tough process?

As far as I know... ElectrumG is "fine"... like I said, no reports to my knowledge of it being a scam, but I am not going to put my reputation on the line and claim that it is definitely safe. I haven't checked the code and I haven't used it.

Quote

I used the Bitcoin Gold "QT" fullnode wallet (basically, the port of Bitcoin Core -> Bitcoin Gold) and Ledger to get Bitcoin Gold.

As your bitcoins were in Electrum at the time of the fork, you're kinda stuck with using Electrum derivatives like ElectrumG if you want "the easy way" using the 12 word Electrum seed mnemonic due to Electrum seed mnemonics not being BIP39 compliant... otherwise, you'll have to identify each address/private key in Electrum that contains coins, then export those keys and then import/sweep them into another BTG wallet.

Quote
What is your best recommendation for me to claim my bitcoin gold?  Is it coinomi?
I'm not going to recommend anything... as I'm not willing to take any responsibility for anything that you do. Your "options" are:

1. use ElectrumG - quick and easy.
2. use Bitcoin Gold "full node" - you have to export all your private keys, import all your keys... then wait for the node to sync and scan your imported addresses.
3. use some other BTG compatible wallet (like Coinomi) that allows importing and/or sweeping of individual private keys.

Time to put your big boy pants on and make a decision.

Quote
So are there even ppl that claimed their bitcoin sv yet?  I mean thats a very long time since the fork came out in November?
Well of course there are... otherwise there wouldn't be any Bitcoin SV in circulation, other than those from mining Roll Eyes

Quote
I mean i would have thought having it in ledger... that would be easier.  But those who kept it in exchanges like coinbase, binance and bittrex were basically given it then?  Thus it would been better to keep the bitcoin cash there those days instead?
My understanding is that "some" exchanges offered to honour the SV fork... but not all supported it.

Ledger has chosen not to implement SV, can't say I blame them... developing/testing for every single fork ever would be a complete waste of their time... they have to make a call as to which forks are going to continue to exist and are worthwhile developing for... SV appears to have lost in the Bitcoin Cash "war"... the majority of the hashrate and value remains with Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV is currently worth 1/3 of BCH.

Quote
Thus we had no idea how ppl would get the bitcoin SV from it if they had it in nano ledger?  What about those with bitcoin cash in electroncash?  Is it just the same tough process?
If you had Bitcoin Cash in a ledger, your only option for getting Bitcoin SV would be to move ALL of your coins off the current seed on the ledger to a new seed... then, using the old seed you could safely export your private keys, them import them into a Bitcoin SV wallet...

If you had Bitcoin Cash in Electron Cash, originally you would have had to export/import private keys... as the only Bitcoin SV wallet to start with was the default Linux-only client. Apparently there is now (since January) an ElectrumSV... They even have a guide for splitting SV coins using this wallet... but again, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

HCP as usual thanks for the detailed response.  Im going to have to think about this a bit for the bitcoin gold.

But for Bitcoin SV, are you waiting till a legit program like electroncash comes out before you do anything right?

To those who claimed Bitcoin Gold, which wallet did you use?

HCP says electrumG is recommended by many others and he hasn't heard anything negative about it but he never used it so he isn't going to say he endorses it.

So anyone else?

Also what about bitcoin SV?  What wallet do you suggest i use to claim it?  I just claimed my bitcoin cash not long ago from electron cash.  So that would mean my bitcoin cash was in electrum when the bitcoin sv fork happened.  So how do i get the bitcoin SV?

I said nothing of the sort... Roll Eyes

HCP, I have bitcoin cash in my nano ledger s.  So this is bitcoin cash abc right?  Thus if i could send the bitcoin cash to binance if i like and it would be to the bitcoin abc address on binance?  Or does it need to be split?
I just thought of this right now.  And how does one split it if i have to?  Or is this bitcoincash ... well bitcoin cash?
Bitcoin Cash = BCH

When the fork happened, you had Bitcoin Cash "ABC" and Bitcoin Cash "SV" both vying to be the "True" Bitcoin Cash... As far as I can tell, ABC won... so, BCH == "Bitcoin Cash ABC"... Bitcoin SV generally has a completely different "ticker" on the exchanges.

If you have BCH on your ledger, then it is going to be "ABC"... send it to "Bitcoin Cash ABC" on Binance

Hi HCP.  So I have Bitcoin Cash.  Wait so other exchanges like bittrex or any other exchanges, they call Bitcoin Cash... Bitcoin Cash ABC or its only binane?  I always thought because of the bitcoin fork, they just named it Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV?

Okay i made a mistake with what you said about electrumg.  sorry about that.

Can anyone here endorse electrumG?  I would like to get my bitcoin gold now and claim it so i dont have to in the futre.

The thing is if i claim my bitcoin gold through say android and coinomi or through electrumg, well the danger is you expose you bitcoin wallet if you download wrong program.  But since i moved my btc to nano ledger s already and claimed my bitcoin cash from electroncash already since bitcoin was in electrum at the time of the bitcoin cash and gold fork, is there anything im exposed to?  Thus my original 12 word seed in electrum is just the bitcoin gold now?  But what about diamond and private?

Because ppl said if you claim bitcoin cash or gold, make sure you move your btc to another wallet.  Well does that mean even if some issue happens with bitcoin gold, thats all i lose?  However, there is bitcoin diamond and bitcoin private which i believe are the only 2 other legit forks besides bitcoin cash and gold and sv?  So you basically lose your bitcoin diamond and private if download incorrect wallet?

Okay well is my situation a bit different?  I kept btc in electrum at time of bitcoin cash and gold fork.  Also i kept btc in electrum at the time of bitcoin diamond and private fork if there was one.

I did not claim but bitcoin cash till recent using electroncash.  So I'm still eligible to claim bitcoin SV even though I didn't claim my bitcoin cash recently via electrum?  Because i know how you get Bitcoin SV depends on where your bitcoin cash is located.  But i never claimed my bitcoin cash before that date of the bitcoin SV fork.  So does that mean my bitcoin cash was in electroncash at the time?  What confuses me is well couldn't you claim your bitcoin cash from another wallet as oppose to electroncash if you kept btc in electrum?  Because if so, then wouldn't that mean your bitcoin cash is located in somewhere else?  Or its always located in electroncash?

Mate seriously... unless you had hundreds of BTC (and therefore hundreds of BCH)... the amount you stand to lose in Bitcoin SV/Diamond/Private if you download a "bad" wallet is probably about $1.50... Roll Eyes

Bitcoin SV is worth $83.72 per coin
Bitcoin Gold is worth $18.14 per coin
Bitcoin Diamond is worth $1.30 per coin
Bitcoin private is worth 44c per coin... and isn't even traded on any "proper" exchange. Roll Eyes

Your Bitcoin was moved from Electrum and your Bitcoin Cash was moved from ElectronCash to your Nano... so they're "safe"... Even if you gave your Electrum seed to someone, there is no chance they can get either the BTC or BCH. So, just go to the official sites... download the wallets for the coins you want... get your coins and stop panicking about everything.

Bitcoin SV wallet - https://electrumsv.io/ (linked from official BitcoinSV site here: https://bitcoinsv.io/services/wallets-and-exchanges/)
Bitcoin Gold wallet - https://bitcoingold.org/electrumg/
Bitcoin Diamond wallet - https://www.bitcoindiamond.org/download/
Bitcoin Private wallet - https://btcprivate.org/wallets

As always, get them in order of value, most valuable first... so do SV, then Gold, then Diamond, (then, if you care about the pennies... do Private).

To my knowledge... SV, Gold and Diamond wallets are perfectly safe. Private simply isn't worth worrying about unless you have thousands of coins.

Hey hcp, yes i know even if someone has my electrum seed, they can't claim my btc or bitcoin cash because they are already moved to my nano ledger s.  Yes it make sense to claim whatever is the highest value.  That is why i went with bitcoin cash first.

Then i was going to do either bitcoin gold or SV

Crypto makes me panic.  Whenever i check firmware or anything like that, im panick.  I just can't help it.

With the bitcoin gold wallet you posted, isn't it true you need to download entire blockchain which takes a long time or something like that?

Thanks.

No. Those are all links to forks of Electrum for various fork coins...
