[Yes, I know there's an official MacMiner thread, but this system isn't letting me post there for some reason.]

Need some big help here because I have reached the point that I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

I acquired one of the lovely ASIC USB devices. I've installed MacMiner, fired up bfgminer and don't seem to be doing anything after configuring and hitting start. So, I went to the FPGA/ASIC miner, configured it with my bitguild.com info, hit start, and this is what I get for output:

It *says* it's running some 1-2 Mhs, but I don't think it's actually crunching on anything real.

Can someone help a poor lost soul out?  Huh  Huh  Huh

Oh yeah, I'm running OS X 10.8.4 and MacMiner 1.4.2 (1402).  Cool

Many thanks!

Hey, you need to tell it to connect to the device so first off, have you installed the usb serial drivers for it? If not try running in the cgminer window and check the disable gpu button in miner settings.

If that doesn't work you need to install the mac driver from here
http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/Pages/USBtoUARTBridgeVCPDrivers.aspx

then run the FPGA/ASIC window (again disable GPU) and in miner settings custom flags enter

-S all

If that doesn't work you need to get the device's specific address. Try this:

-S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART

Let me know how it goes for you!

Things have definitely become odd.

I did install the USB drivers (sorry for not mentioning that-d'oh!).

To try to eliminate variables I left the pool address as the Fabulous Panda one.

Now when trying FPGA/ASIC with -S all I get:

Interestingly, the LEDs on the USB devices go out as if they are working, but it feels in the laptop like the CPU is being used for mining as the fan spins up and the bottom of the laptop grows hot.

If I go with -S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART I get this:

The speed indicator in the FPGA/ASIC window goes anywhere from 35 Mhs to 469 Mhs, almost like it's working, but I can't tell for sure. It's bouncing all over by the second.

Thanks!

Try -S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART, it worked for me.

Damn, I saw someone setup with -S all mining at FPGA/Erupter type speed in the anonymous data that gets sent in if you tick a box in preferences so I figured that would work. But, it can't find it so it uses the cpu.

It's working for you in the FPGA/ASIC view with the device specified though. Where you see ICA 0 it's talking about it - and it's not using the cpu anymore. Speed will vary but it shouldn't by that much. Then again I don't have one of these, perhaps there's something about the way it works that makes the 5s avg. reading very variable on those.

Anyway, you can check up on your miner here:

Well, it seems like something's happening, but I don't know if it's all working correctly. So I have a few questions.

1. What about all the connection error messages regarding the server--can those be ignored?

2. What flags can I put in the -S statement so that it gets both USB devices working instead of just the one?

I almost wonder if I shouldn't "erase" the various miners, drivers, etc. from the command line and then reinstall so it's "fresh." But I'm not sure what all I'd have to erase to get to that point. Even when I have tried to run bfgminer from the command line I get similar error messages and things don't look right.

Thanks for all your help!

OK, I think I've got this thing working now. I put

-S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART9 -S /dev/cu.SLAB_USBtoUART

in the flag settings and it seems to be doing fine. In fact, I'm getting hash speeds well above what's been advertised for these miners, at times over 500Mhs each for a combined total of 1.0+ Ghs. Now, that may be something odd in the reporting, but it's interesting nonetheless.

So, for the time being, I'm a happy camper (and I'm not TOUCHING ANYTHING!).  Cool
