If you say we can bet in any currency, do you mean crypto currency? How to bet Bitcoin through a smartcontract based on Ethereum?

If I simplify the concept, does this kind of work like an exchange?
You but a bid/ask for a bet and if it gets taken the smart contracts locks the bet and checks the result to see who wins?
