What were they mining using the cryptonight algo then?
If you hadn't been using NiceHash, you would know. Now we won't tell you and we will keep mining it Lol ... I've had my first 6 gpu rig up and running for a total of 2 days, so don't hate because I tried nicehash for 6 hours and woke up yesterday morning to this.

Bitcoin addresses contain a checksum, so it is very unlikely that mistyping an address will cause you to lose money.

I was mining with two S9s for about a day and this happens. It's not a big loss for me but I know how much of a loss it is for people that had more crypto on their accounts. Guess it's just one downside to being lazy.

This is really no different than paying exchange, pool, or miner fees. At just about every step of the game you end up needing to trust someone and they could turn out to be a scammer and run off with your funds. Sure you could solo mine to your own wallet and never move the coins anywhere ever, but then what would be the point.

I personally wouldn't call someone lazy who has made learning about cryptocurrency a second full time job for the past several weeks. I tried NH to get my foot in the door and start generating some $ as a miner who has had my first 6 gpu rig running for less than a week. I wasn't interested in letting $3500usd worth of hardware sit and not generate anything while I explored other avenues. On another note, my rig is finally up and running mining something that has required a lot of time and effort. Thanks for all of the help. You might want to stop spending your time as a fool so quick to judge anyone who ever used NH and begin by educating yourself on the proper use of punctuation. That would instantly make more seem a little more intelligent. Which in your case, is very much needed. P.S. ... There is a huge difference between your and you're. Perhaps you should take another look at getting your G.E.D.

Agree with u) If it is honest everybody who is minnig pools are lazy) The most profit comes from newest coins that nobody had heard;) If u are working somethere else, nice helps u realy fast check profitability and choose algo. If the main job minnig ok u can do all manually, it's your choice.

Hey guys. I just registered an account here and figured I would ask a few stupid questions and get laughed at some haha. Anyway, I was one of the people who got screwed over by nicehash, but stuff happens and life goes on. I followed the advice on here and downloaded the NemosMiner 2.2.1 and it's currently running. I've got a really stupid question though...How do I know when I will get paid or how much I have earned? With nicehash there was an entire gui/interface that showed everything nice and clear. With all of the command prompt setups, I have no idea how to figure that out. I have read a ton about mining, but I still have a lot to learn. Hopefully you guys won't be to hard on me and help me swap over from what apparently was the dark side.
Thanks again for the help to whoever answers. If you need any further information let me know.
PS: One more quick question, can the NemosMiner use your CPU as well? I have a nice new shiny 8700k that I would like to mine with as well if it's possible. I know certain currencies can be mined with it, I believe cryptonight or keccak, but I could be wrong. I just don't know if you can do it with NemosMiner / ccminer or if I need something completely separate for that.
Sorry for the noob questions, but I am just starting out lol. If you guys are curious or it helps at all, I have a single gtx 1080, 8700k, 16gb of ram and a great cooling setup. Temps at full load are below 50c on the cpu and below 63C on the GPU.
Edit: Well I figured out how to see how much I am making, I feel pretty stupid now haha. Still need to find out how to mine with my cpu though instead of just my gpu. Any tips would be appreciated!

I wonder if Josh Zerlan was behind NiceHash.
Oh, and it's GED, not to be confused with Q.E.D. (re a post above the fold).

They are just too lazy to put periods between the letters.

Will be looking to nemosminer as well, thanks for the suggestion. In the meantime, the plot (bad news?) thickens according to the post from earlier https://www.justcryptonews.com/291/breaking-nicehash-has-been-hacked-50mln-missing and Reddit : According to a reddit user the owner of Nicehash company with a share capital of half a million euros is Bitorious (45%) based in Dornberk, its director is Marko Kobal, and 55% of the company is owned by H-Bit. The owner of H-Bit is Martin Škorjanc. An interesting fact is that Martin Škorjanc is the father of Matjaž Škorjanc, who was arrested by Slovenian police for an online cyber crime with the help of the US FBI in Maribor. According to BBC Matjaz Skorjanc was arrested in 2010 after a two-year investigation into malware that had hijacked about 12.7 million computers around the world. Are things getting wild? I all ways thought the owners of nice hash were shady but didn't think they were that bad..

I all ways thought the owners of nice hash were shady but didn't think they were that bad.. Well, to be honest, the fact that someone has bad history, is ..well just that. Otherwise, the law states, innocent until proven guilty Despite shady past history, I actually do not think that this is an inside job after all. Time will tell I guess. The good news (for those who still want to just click and mine without tinkering and ever optimizing hardware, pools etc etc) is that they are probably coming back online sometime soon. https://www.justcryptonews.com/294/nicehash-coming-back-onlineWe shall see, how that plays out...
